Isaiah 63:10 (1-19) “But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit;”
What are you doing with the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit has been around for a long, long time. We know of His work in the church as the one who empowers each of us to be the kind of people God wants us to be, in spite of our resistance. We know also that He is our seal, the proof of purchase required to prove our right to be saved, Ephesians 4:30. We also know that He is our counselor in times of trouble or at any time we need help, John 14:26.
Yet, there is one thing that we seem to be able to do to the Spirit at any time be it Old or New Testament and that is we grieve Him. It seems that no matter how hard He works for us, how patient He is with us or trusting of us we find ways to let Him down, 1 Thessalonians 5:19. Whether it is as individuals or as a group we seem to be pretty good at making Him stop working for us.
Yet, there is one thing that we can do to change that, even back then, and that is to repent, 63:11. Nothing makes the Spirit happier than to see one of His, turn away from his willfulness and return. To confess before Him how you have failed Him and to ask Him for His help as together you work through your cycle of sin as a first step to becoming useful to our Lord and His Spirit again.
Humility involves realizing my total inability to accomplish anything for God without His Holy Spirits enabling.
