Job 18:8 (1-21) “For he is thrown into the net by his own feet,”
What are you doing?
Yesterday we were looking at our need to remain focused on our God given objectives and how this can keep us from being distracted into making terrible mistakes. Bildad rightly points out that the light of the wicked goes out, 18:5.
In Psalm 73 Asaph observes that it seems like a waste to be righteous because the wicked seem to have a better time in life. They have more, bigger and better things than those who strive to be right before God. This was very discouraging to Asaph and he says it almost lead him to reject God. But then he went to God and learned the end of the wick and how they walk in “slippery places”. Knowing what was to be the end of the life of the wicked helped Asaph to keep away from that evil. What the wicked do is deceiving.
So, keeping our eyes where they are supposed to be and remembering the end of the wicked can help us not only to avoid needless suffering, it can also help us through any kind of suffering. Job’s friends couldn’t see (or wouldn’t see) that suffering is not just the result of punishment. Likewise we shouldn’t be too quick or stubborn to judge.
Sensitivity involves caring for others with the same passion you care for yourself.
