Exodus 24:11 (1-18) “Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; and they saw God, and they ate and drank.”
What is the evidence of your encounter with God?
It must have been quite a sight for all of Israel to see the presence of God among them in the mountain. But it really must have been something for Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and the seventy elders because they were now allowed to come up on the mountain. They all were now not only witnesses to the overwhelming commitment of the people (24:3, 7) and the presence of God, but now they were permitted to eat with God, 24:11. When you eat with someone it was a demonstration of friendship; God was making Himself out to be a friend and they were accepting that friendship.
I don’t know about you but I would never be the same. I would be able to say that I know God exists because I have seen Him and eaten with Him and everybody else saw me see Him. None of this happened in their heads. And so as to verify that it had happened God orders the elders to take charge of the congregation while He went up the mountain with Moses and his servant Joshua, 24:14, 32:17. Can you Imagine being able to answer the question, who put you in charge with the answer, GOD!
Yet, what is really significant about this whole affair is the fact that God made sure to record the words of the people as they committed themselves to follow only this one God and obey Him and only Him, 24:3, 7. Somewhere in heaven, I’m sure my name and even yours is written down. But do you have any evidence here and right now of that day? I do!
Loyalty involves not hiding my commitment to God, but using difficult situations to let others see how much I trust Him to run my life.
