Leviticus 19:2 (1-37) “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for the Lord your God is holy.’”

How holy are you?

This chapter offers a really big list of behaviors that God wanted his people to consider. Some of them seem strange like no tattoos (19:28), stand up when the elderly enter a room (19:3, 32) and not eating of the fruit trees they planted until the fifth year ((19:23-25). These behaviors, God said, would be blessed, 19:25. But there was no reason for them or us to try to find any logical or rational reasons to obey them, other than that they were commands given by the Creator of the universe.

We could say that most of the behaviors or commands referred to a specific behavior God was trying to rid His people of that could be found in all the territories He was sending them to. This would be true. Although tattooing was linked in many cases to idol worship, it wasn’t the only reason. I guess you could make a case for, if God wanted you tattooed you would have been born that way or He would have included it in a ritual practice. But this is not the reason for the commands. The reason for the commands is found in 19:2.

God wants us to be like Him, not like the world we have corrupted. One day we will all be living on a new earth that has never been corrupted, Revelation 21:1. There will be no reason for us to wait until the fifth year to eat fruits we planted, because then everything will be holy; even us. But until then behaving the way God originally intended us to will be seen as different and even as antisocial or holy.

Levítico 19:2 “Habla a toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel y diles: “Seréis santos porque yo, el Señor vuestro Dios, soy santo.’”

¿Qué santo eres?

Este capítulo ofrece una gran lista de comportamientos que Dios quiso que su pueblo mantuviera en cuenta. Algunas de ellas parecen extrañas como no tatuajes (19:28), ponerse de pie cuando un anciano entra en una sala (19:3, 32) y no comer de las frutas de los árboles que plantan hasta el quinto año ((19:23). Estos comportamientos, Dios dijo, sería bendecido, 19:25. Pero no hay razón alguna para ellos o nosotros a tratar de encontrar alguna razón lógica o racional para obedecerlas, además que eran órdenes dadas por el Creador del universo.

Podríamos decir que la mayoría de los comportamientos o los mandatos se refiere a un determinado comportamiento que Dios estaba tratando de deshacer en su pueblo de que puedan encontrar en todos los territorios donde Dios los había enviado. Esto sería cierto. Aunque el tatuaje estaba vinculada en muchos casos a la adoración de ídolos, no fue el único motivo. Supongo que se puede hacer el caso que si Dios nos quería tatuado nos hubiera creado así, o que lo hubiera incluido en un rito. Pero este no es el motivo de los mandamientos. La razón por los mandamientos se encuentra en 19:2.

Dios quiere que seamos como Él, no como el mundo que hemos dañado. Un día, todos viviremos en una tierra nueva que nunca se ha dañado, Apocalipsis 21:1. No habrá ninguna razón para esperar hasta el quinto año a comer las frutas que plantamos, porque entonces todo será santo, aun nosotros. Pero hasta entonces, comportarse en la forma en que Dios originalmente intento será visto como algo diferente e incluso como antisociales o santo.

Sabiduría involucra entendiendo nuestras vidas desde la perspectiva de Dios.

Leviticus 18:3 (1-30) “You shall not do what is done in the land…”

What is your standard?

In this chapter God tells His people that they were not to run their sexual lives by the standards they saw in Egypt or by the standards of the people of the land of Canaan where they were going. But, God would give them a standard and they were to follow it. In other words they were not to do as others did but as God said. Or, again they weren’t to try and fit in with everybody else when it came to sexual practices.

Those standards are still His standards for His people today.

If you remember the story of Lot and Sodom you understand that Lot was trying to fit in while at the same time staying separate from the practices of the Sodomites. What happened was that Lot was not able to protect his wife and daughters from those influences. Remember, as they left his wife couldn’t help herself to look back and died. Later his daughters committed sexual acts that were not uncommon for those of Sodom, producing the offspring that would later become a serious problem for Israel.

When Israel did go into the land of Canaan they failed to destroy the people and their practices as God had told them. Because of that the practices of those people became the practices of the Israelites. This is why God sent the Amorites, the Syrians and finally the Babylonians. As today’s children of God we must maintain a standard different from that of this world that seeks to please itself in the moment. We seek a higher standard, not because we are better, but because we belong to God and not ourselves, 1 Corinthians 6:9-20.

Decisiveness involves maintaining our commitments in spite of the distractions of life.

Levítico 18:3 (1-30) “No haréis como hacen en la tierra…”

¿Cuál es el criterio?

En este capítulo Dios le dice a su pueblo que no debían ejecutar su vida sexual desde el criterio que vieron en Egipto o por las normas de la gente de la tierra de Canaán donde se dirigían. Sino, Dios les daría una norma que siguieran. En otras palabras, no hacer como otros pero como dijo Dios. O, una vez más, no debería seguir las practicas del mundo cuando se trata de prácticas sexuales.

Esas normas todavía son Sus las normas para Su pueblo hoy.

Si te acuerdas de la historia de Lot y Sodoma entiendes que Lot estaba tratando de encajarse con y a la misma vez mantenerse separado de las prácticas de los sodomitas. Lo que sucedió fue que Lot no fue capaz de proteger a su esposa e hijas de estas influencias. Recuerde, que al salir de la ciudad su esposa no podía resistir mirar hacia atrás y murió. Más tarde sus hijas cometieron actos sexuales que no fueron raros entre los de Sodoma, y resulto en una descendencia que más tarde se convertiría en un problema grave para Israel.

Cuando Israel entro en la tierra de Canaán faltaron de destruir al pueblo y sus prácticas como Dios les había dicho. Debido a esa falta de ser decisivos las prácticas de los Cananeos se convertido en las prácticas de los Israelitas. Es por eso que Dios envió los Amorreos, los Sirios, y por último los Babilonios. Hoy, siendo los niños de Dios, debemos mantener un nivel diferente de la de este mundo que busca complacerse en el momento. Estamos buscando un nivel más alto, no porque somos mejores, sino porque pertenecemos a Dios y no de nosotros mismos, 1 Corintios 6:9 -20.

Ser decisivo involucra manteniendo nuestros compromisos a pesar de las distracciones de la vida.

Leviticus 17:5 (1-16) “…bring them to the Lord, at the doorway of the tent of meeting…”

Why do you what you do?

Many of us, who are believers, came to the Lord when we were quit young. But some of us came to know the Lord much later. The young don’t have as many old and bad habits to get rid of as the older ones.

In this chapter God wants to insure that old habits were being replaced with knew ones. It was the habit of some to offer a sacrifice to one of the farming gods. Another habit was to thank the hunting gods, by eating the blood of a fresh kill. These old and bad habits needed to be replaced with new habits that would remind them of the true God they now followed. Sacrifices had to be brought to the tent of meeting to be acceptable. I know that sounds strange, but they weren’t meat eaters back then, like we are today. For them, meat was occasional, special.

Habits are the daily, weekly, monthly, yearly rituals we perform that make up our day-to-day experience. They help us remember what’s important to get done. Like a lot of people get up early enough in the morning to get to the donut shop for coffee with time to get to work. The coffee is important to waking up completely so you get up early enough (the habit).

As believers we need to set up habits to replace old bad ones that remind us of what is truly important. I’ve gotten myself into the habit of getting up early enough to spend time with God (and you) before I go to work. I don’t feel complete without my time with God first. So I make my own coffee!

Loyalty involves making my goals and my desires His.

Levítico 17:5 (1-16) “…los traigan al Señor a la puerta de la tienda de reunión…”

¿Por qué haces lo que haces?

Muchos de nosotros, que somos creyentes, llegamos al Señor, cuando eran bastante jóvenes. Pero algunos de nosotros llegamos a conocer al Señor mucho más tarde. Los jóvenes no tienen muchos de los viejos y malos hábitos para deshacerse como los más viejos.

En este capítulo Dios quiere asegurar que los viejos hábitos estaban siendo sustituidos con sabía. Era la costumbre de algunos a ofrecer un sacrificio a un dios de la agricultura. Otra costumbre era de dar gracias al dios de caza, comiendo la sangre de una nueva muerte. Estos viejos y malos hábitos necesitaban ser sustituido por nuevos hábitos que les hicieran recordar el verdadero Dios que ahora seguían. Entonces, sacrificios tenían que ser llevadas a la tienda del encuentro para ser aceptable. Sé que suena raro, pero no eran consumidores de carne, como somos hoy. Para ellos, la carne era ocasional, especial.

Son los hábitos diarios, semanales, mensuales y anuales que forman nuestra experiencia diaria. Ellos nos ayudan a recordar lo que es importante hacer. Por ejemplo, muchos se levantan temprano en la mañana para llegar tienda de donas para el café, con tiempo para llegar a su trabajo. El café ayuda a despertarse completamente por eso nos levantarnos temprano (el hábito).

Como creyentes tenemos que establecer hábitos para sustituir los viejos malos hábitos que nos recuerda lo que es verdaderamente importante. Yo me he acostumbrado a levantarme lo suficiente temprano para pasar un tiempo con Dios (y usted) antes de ir al trabajar. No me siento completo sin mi tiempo con Dios primer. Por eso hago mi propio café!

Leviticus 16:8 (1-34) “Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats,”

Are you ready?

The Day of Atonement was to be the most holy day of the year for the Jews. This was the day in which God wanted them to reflect on their sinfulness and come to God confessing that they were sinners.

After Aaron offered sacrifices to prepare him to come into the presence of God, for the people, he was to select one of two goats. One goat would die and the other would be let go far from the camp. The goat that would die would symbolically pay for the sins of the people so they would not die. The second goat would escape death by symbolically carrying the sins of the people far away, so they could move on in life. This way the condition of “the soul who sins will die” (Ezekiel 18:4, 20) was satisfied for a year.

Isaiah tells us that the Messiah to come would first come to offer himself as that atoning sacrifice. Then He would return as the conquering hero. In Isaiah 53 we see a description of that man and how He would suffer. That Man had not come in the history of Israel until the days of Jesus, who was that Man. Like the first goat Jesus has die for our sins. And like the second goat He has take away the consequences of those sins.

This Day of Atonement, that happened when Jesus died on the cross, has not finished yet. There is still time for those who have not confessed to make that confession and apply the work of Jesus. He has not yet returned as that conquering hero, and as long as He hasn’t there is still time. Don’t waste the opportunity.

Levítico 16:8 (1-34) “Y echará suertes Aarón sobre los dos machos cabríos, una suerte por el Señor, y otra suerte para el macho cabrío expiatorio.”

¿Estás preparado?

El Día de la Expiación era el día más santo del año para los judíos. Este fue el día en el que Dios quería que ellos reflejan sobre sus pecados y venir a Dios confesando que eran pecadores.

Después que Aarón ofreciera sacrificios a prepararlo para entrar en la presencia de Dios y para el pueblo, fue a escoger uno de los dos machos cabríos. Una para muerte y el otro sería dejado libre lejos del campamento. La cabra que moriría simbólicamente pagaba por los pecados del pueblo, para que no mueren. El segundo macho cabrío, escapar de la muerte de manera simbólica cargando los pecados del pueblo lejos, para poder vivir libres. En esa manera, el estado de “el alma que pecare morirá” (Ezequiel 18:4, 20) se mostró satisfecho por el término de un año.

Isaías nos dice que el Mesías que vendría primero se ofrece como sacrificio expiatorio. A continuación, iba a regresar como el héroe conquistador. En Isaías 53, vemos una descripción de ese hombre y cómo iba sufrir. Tal hombre no había entrado en la historia de Israel hasta los días de Jesús, quien era ese Hombre. Al igual que la primera cabra Jesús murió por nuestros pecados. Y al igual que el segundo macho cabrío ha llevado las consecuencias de nuestros pecados.

Este Día de Expiación, que ocurrió cuando Jesús murió en la cruz, aún no ha terminado. Todavía hay tiempo para aquellos que no han confesado, confesar y aplicar la obra de Jesús. Él aún no ha regresado como héroe, y mientras no, hay tiempo. No pierdas la oportunidad.

Leviticus 15:32 (1-33) “This is the law for the one with a discharge,”

Are sexually transmitted diseases new?

In this chapter there are two cases one a serious problem and the second a normal problem. Whether male or female the subject of personal hygiene and sex are open to the Lord as any other part of our lives. Since marriage is not mentioned it is safe to assume that these rules were to be observed whether married or not. Nothing escapes His gaze. Not that God is a peeping Tom, but the things we seek to hide from Him, we can’t.

In both instances the people were to consider themselves contagious. Someone with a weaker system could touch whatever the infected had touched and they could be infected. In the case of the more serious condition a sexual disease (gonorrhea) was probably in mind. I am reminded that some researchers have found evidence of serious problems with sexually transmitted disease throughout men’s history. And, I’m sure that the rumor mill was working back then as well. So, why people think they can hide such things at all is beyond me.

There is nothing wrong with sex between a husband and his wife at any time. The problem comes when we think that there are things, sins, we commit that no one will notice. But, you know! The sooner you deal with these problems the better for you and all involved, directly or indirectly.

Responsibility involves learning to establish personal disciplines to help you become the person God wants you to be.

Levítico 15:32 (1-33) “This is the law for the one with a discharge,”

¿Son las enfermedades transmitidas sexualmente nuevo?

En este capítulo hay dos casos uno un problema grave y el segundo un problema normal. Sean hombres o mujeres el tema de la higiene personal y el sexo están abireto al Señor como a cualquier otra parte de nuestras vidas. Ya que el matrimonio no se menciona podemos asumir que estas reglas se aplican si o no casados. Nada escapa Su mirada. No es que Dios es un averiguado, pero las cosas que tratamos de esconder de Él, no podemos.

En ambos casos, las personas se consideraban contagiosas. Alguien con una débil sistema podría tocar lo que él contaminado habia tocado y ser infectados. En el caso de una condición más grave como una enfermedad sexual (gonorrea) fue probablemente en mente. Me hace recordar que algunos investigadores han encontrado evidencia de serios problemas relacionados con enfermedades sexualmente transmitidas en la historia de la humanidad. Y, estoy seguro de que los rumores estaban trabajando en ese entonces tambien. Así que, ¿por qué piensan que pueden esconder este tipo de cosas es más allá de mí.

No hay nada de malo con las relaciones sexuales entre un esposo y su esposa en cualquier momento. El problema viene cuando pensamos que hay cosas, pecados, nos comprometemos que nadie se de cuenta. Pero, tu sabes! Lo mas pronto que tratas de estos problemas, la mejor para usted y todos los que han participado, directa o indirectamente.

Responsabilidad involucra aprender a establecer disciplinas personales para ayudarnos alcanzar a ser la persona que Dios quiere que seamos.

Leviticus 14:35 (1-57) “Something like a mark of leprosy has become visible to me in the house.”

What are you avoiding?

Although leprosy was a real and sometimes deadly infection, it is also a good picture of sin in our lives. I mean that just like leprosy becomes part of our physical bodies, sin can become part of our spiritual body. It becomes a thing we need to take seriously and get rid of a soon as possible. And, after you get rid of the leprosy you can’t help but check yourself periodically to make sure it hasn’t returned.

We know that sin is a personal choice to disobey God. But what we sometimes don’t realize is that there are things that have been so infected with sin that they won’t change no matter what you do with them. This is why leprosy could cause a house to have to be burnt down.

Today, we don’t realize that there are certain types of everyday things that have been created to cause us, or others to sin. Music, literature, art, clothing, movies, magazines, television and the internet to mention a few are areas of life that can become infected by sin, thereby causing us and others to sin. I’m not saying that these things are sinful, just that most all of them have been infected with sinful intent and should be, at times, avoided by true believers. We should be cautious about the clothing we wear, the music we listen to, what we watch on TV or the movies and so on so as not to become infected with the desire to sin or to actually sin in our minds.

We know that at times it is next to impossible to avoid sin. This is why we must be prepared, always to correct the problem when ever or where ever it happens.

Levítico 14:35 (1-57) “Algo así como la marca de la lepra ha aparecido en mi casa.”

¿Qué estas evitando?

Aunque la lepra era una infección real y en ocasiones mortal, también es una buena imagen del pecado en nuestras vidas. Quiero decir que al igual que la lepra se convierte en parte de nuestro cuerpo físico, el pecado puede convertirse en parte de nuestro cuerpo espiritual. Se convierte en una cosa que tenemos que tomar en serio y deshacerse lo mas pronto posible. Y, después de deshacerse de la lepra su deseo va ser de comprobar usted mismo periódicamente para asegurarse de que no ha regresado.

Sabemos que el pecado es una decisión personal a desobedecer a Dios. Pero lo que a veces no se dan cuenta es que hay cosas que han sido infectados con el pecado y no cambiaran no importa lo que hagas con ellos. Esta es la razón porque la lepra puede causar que una casa necesitara ser quemada.

Hoy en día, no nos damos cuenta que hay ciertos tipos de cosas de cada día que se han creado para hacernos, o a otros pecar. Música, literatura, arte, ropa, películas, revistas, la televisión y el internet para mencionar unas pocas son áreas de la vida que pueden ser infectados por el pecado, lo que nos hace y a otros a pecar. No estoy diciendo que estas cosas son pecado en si, sólo que la mayoría de ellos han sido infectados con intenciones pecaminosas y debe ser, a veces, evitados por verdaderos creyentes. Debemos ser cautelosos en lo que respecta a la ropa que vestimos, la música que escuchamos, lo que vemos en la televisión o el cine, etc. para que no se infectan con el deseo de pecar o de pecado en nuestras mentes.

Sabemos que a veces es casi imposible evitar el pecado. Es por esto que debemos estar preparados, siempre para corregir el problema, cada vez o donde quiera que ocurra.

Responsabilidad involucra aprender a establecer disciplinas personales para ayudarnos alcanzar a ser la persona que Dios quiere que seamos.

Leviticus 13:55 (1-59) “it is unclean; you shall burn it in the fire,”

Need to burn something away?

Leprosy was any serious infection of the skin or article of clothing because it was contagious. What we today call Hansen’s disease may have been included. Hansen’s was the kind of leprosy we have seen in the movies like Ben-Hur or the Elephant Man where the entire body was affected. Whatever kind it was it had to be dealt with seriously, thoroughly and quickly. The person was separated from the people until it could be determined the leprosy was gone or it was a permanent thing. In the case of clothing it could simple be burned, but in the case of a person that one would remain separated from his people until he died.

In a way leprosy is a picture of sin in our lives. It too must be dealt with seriously, thoroughly and quickly. It is not something you want to spread to others. Sin (rebelling against the will of God) is not just a personal, private matter. Sin changes the way you look at things, your behavior and people notice that change. The reaction is either to reject you or to follow you. In either case you have negatively affected the life of another person.

This happens because sin is contagion we are all born with it. But, those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior now have a dual nature. We don’t have to live according to that old way. We need to put that side outside of our lives. We need to consider that side unclean and avoid it as much as possible so it won’t infect us or anyone else again. This we can’t do ourselves, we need the Holy Spirit and who ever it is that is guiding us in our daily walk.

Humility involves understanding how easy it is to deceive yourself into thinking that you don’t need any help.

Levítico 13:55 (1-59) “es inmundo; en el fuego lo quemarás,”

¿Necesitas de quemar algo?

La lepra era una grave infección de la piel o un artículo de ropa porque era contagiosa. Lo que hoy llamamos la enfermedad de Hansen se ha incluido. Hansen es el tipo de lepra que hemos visto en las películas como Ben-Hur o el Hombre Elefante donde todo el cuerpo se ve afectado. Cualquiera que sea su naturaleza, se tenía que tratar con seriedad, totalidad y rapidez. La persona se separa del pueblo hasta que se pueda determinar libre de la lepra o se mantiene separada. En el caso de ropa simple se quema, pero en el caso de una persona siguen separados de su pueblo hasta que mueran.

De una manera la lepra es una ejemplo del pecado en nuestras vidas. También debe tratarse con seriedad, totalidad y rapidez. No es algo que desea propagarse a otros. El pecado (rebelarse en contra de la voluntad de Dios) no es sólo una cuestión personal, o privada. El pecado cambios tu manera de ver las cosas, su comportamiento y la gente verán el cambio. La reacción es para rechazar o para seguirte. En cualquier caso, el efecto es negativa en la vida de otros.

Esto sucede porque el pecado es contagioso todos nacemos con el. Pero, aquellos de nosotros que hemos aceptado a Jesús como nuestro Señor y Salvador ahora tenemos un carácter doble. No tenemos que vivir de acuerdo a la vieja manera. Tenemos que poner ese lado fuera de nuestras vidas. Necesitamos considerar ese lado inmundo e evitarlo lo mas posible para que no nos infecta otra ves o cualquier otra persona. Esto no podemos dejar de hacer nosotros mismos, necesitamos el Espíritu Santo y aquella persona que nos guía en nuestro diario andar.

La humildad consiste en entender lo fácil que es engañarse a sí mismo pensando que no necesita ninguna ayuda.

Leviticus 12:2 (1-8) “When a woman gives birth…”

How are your children?

Although the birth of a child, male or female is a joyous occasion for all the family, friends and neighbors there are some things we shouldn’t forget.

I’m not aware of all the health issues concerning the birth of a child but I’m sure that cleanliness is one of them. Yet, I don’t think that avoiding infections is the reason for the woman having to refrain from going to the tabernacle with an offering for 33 days or 66 days after giving birth. Dr. Ryrie suggests that the purpose for the delay in offering the burnt and sin offerings was as a reminder to the family, friends and neighbors that the moment a child is born the propensity to sin is transferred to that child. (Although, in the case of Jesus it was not necessary to perform the offering. Do you know why? Luke 2:11)

Again I don’t think that God wants to depress everybody. It’s just so easy for us to forget that in a few days, months and years that child (male or female) will begin to assert their little wills in sinful ways. It is not wise to automatically assume that it is just childish behavior that they will grow out of. The reality is that the sooner our children can come to a saving knowledge and an understanding of their need to be different in this world, the better off they will be when they face the greater temptations of their teen years.

Humility involves not letting your emotions and pride dictate your decisions.

Levítico 12:2 (1-8) “Cuando una mujer dé a luz…”

¿Cómo están sus hijos?

A pesar de que el nacimiento de un niño, hombre o mujer es un momento de alegría para toda la familia, amigos y vecinos hay algunas cosas que no debemos olvidar.

No estoy al tanto de todas las cuestiones relativas a la salud sobre el nacimiento de un niño, pero estoy seguro que la limpieza es uno de ellos. Sin embargo, no creo que para evitar las infecciones es la razón porque la mujer que paria tenia que esperar antes de ir al tabernáculo con una ofrenda de 33 días o 66 días después de dar a luz. El Dr. Ryrie sugiere que el propósito de la demora en el sacrificio de los holocaustos y sacrificios por el pecado era como un recordatorio a la familia, amigos y vecinos que en el momento en que un niño ha nacido la propensidad al pecado es transferido a ese niño. (Aunque, en el caso de Jesús, no era necesario dar la ofrenda. ¿Sabe usted por qué? Lucas 2:11)

De nuevo no creo que Dios quiere desanimarlos. Es tan fácil que se nos olvida que en unos pocos días, meses y años el niño (varón o mujer) comenzará a ejersaer sus pequeñas voluntades en caminos pecaminosos. No es prudente asumir automáticamente que es simplemente comportamiento infantil que abandonara con el tiempo. La realidad es que lo mas pronto posible que nuestros hijos pueden llegar a un conocimiento salvífico y la comprensión de su necesidad de ser diferente en este mundo, mejor será para ellos, que cuando se enfrentan a las mayores tentaciones de sus años de adolescencia.

Humildad involucra no dejar tus emociones y orgullo dictar tus decisiones.

Leviticus 11:47 (1-47) “to make a distinction…”

Why do you eat what you eat?

From here to the end of this book Moses discusses the things the Israelites were to do to become the people of God. Those who trusted God were already true or spiritual people of God. But now we see another step towards becoming godly (reflecting the character of God).

The first step involved the things they did to come to God, chapters 1-10. Now begins the things they did to walk with God, daily. Worship (things you do recognizing God’s authority over you), which involved sacrifice, was as important as their daily walk and even was to become part of that walk.

You can’t get more basic on the issue of your daily walk than the things you eat. Some of the creatures mentioned, most of us, would never, ever think of looking at much less eating, 11:20. But more than just a diet these restrictions (or freedoms, depending on your perspective) were designed. God was calling certain things holy and others unholy. It may have been completely arbitrary, but that would be irrelevant. What was important was that God was telling His people how they were to be different from the rest of the people of the world.

God is still telling those of us who believe in Him how to be different. When you read the New Testament look for those behaviors that make us different from the non-believer. Those things are the result of my belief. My desire is no longer to please the people around me. My desire is to please my Lord that makes me different.

Humility involves accepting the will of God for our lives just as it is.

Levítico 11:47 (1-47) “para hacer distinción…”

¿Por qué comes lo que comes?

Desde aquí hasta el final de este libro Moisés analiza lo que los Israelitas tenían que hacer para convertirse en el pueblo de Dios. Aquellos que ya confiaban en Dios ya eran verdadero o personas espirituales de Dios. Pero ahora vemos otro paso hacia la piedad (reflejando el carácter de Dios).

El primer paso consistía en la cosas que hicieron para llegar a Dios, los capítulos 1-10. Ahora comienza las cosas que hicieron para caminar con Dios, diariamente. Adoración (cosas que haces reconociendo la autoridad de Dios sobre uno), que incluye sacrificios, era tan importante como su paseo diario e incluso fue a formar parte de ese paseo.

No se puede ser más básica en el tema de su andar diario que las cosas que se come. Algunas de las criaturas, la mayoría de nosotros, nunca, quiero mirar mucho menos comer, 11:20. Pero más que una dieta estas restricciones (o libertades, dependiendo de su perspectiva) fueron diseñados. Dios estaba llamando ciertas cosas santo y otros impías. Es posible que haya sido completamente arbitraria, pero sería irrelevante. Lo importante era que Dios estaba diciéndole a su gente cómo iban ser diferentes del resto de la gente del mundo.

Dios todavía está diciendo a nosotros que creemos en Él cómo ser diferente. Cuando se lee el Nuevo Testamento busque esos comportamientos que nos hacen diferentes de los no creyentes. Esas cosas son el resultado de mi creencia. Mi deseo ya no es de complacer la gente. Mi deseo es complacer, mi Señor, que me hace diferente.

La humildad consiste en aceptar la voluntad de Dios para nuestras vidas tal como es.

Leviticus 10:9 (1-20) “Do not drink wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you come to the tent of meeting,”

Do you know what God requires of you?

It seems that when Nadab and Abihu went up to offer a sacrifice they were drunk. Fire came out of the cloud over the tabernacle and killed them without burning them or their clothes, Leviticus 10:2, 5. (I wonder if it was a laser beam that killed them?)

I assume they were drunk because Leviticus 10:8-11 present a restriction on alcoholic beverages while in the service of the Lord. That is while they were offering sacrifice or they were teaching they couldn’t have had anything to drink. This makes a lot of sense even today where driving while under the influence of even a swallow of the stuff can land you in jail. Most of us know that just a little bit can throw you off. Just one quick shot of Niquil can put you to sleep. For this reason many pastors and churches have decided to prohibit drinking at all. When you consider all the other things we can drink today, it seems a small price to pay.

I know I’ve pressed this issue before, but again, it is just as important to God how we serve as that we serve. God is not going to rain down fire on us today that was for another era. But can you imagine the damage created by seeing your pastor drunk (even slightly) on the pulpit or in the counseling room? It would be just as terrible as fire coming from God’s presence.

Virtue involves establishing a moral standard I will refuse to break.

Levítico 10:9 (1-20) “No beberéis vino ni licor, tú ni tus hijos contigo, cuando entréis en la tienda de reunión,”

¿Sabe qué es lo que Dios requiere de usted?

Parece ser que, cuando Nadab y Abiú fueron para ofrecer un sacrificio estaban inebriados. Salió fuego de la nube sobre el tabernáculo y los mato sin quemar su ropa, Levítico 10:2, 5. (¿Me pregunto si una luz láser que los mato?)

Supongo que estaban borrachos porque Levítico 10:8 presente una restricción de bebidas alcohólicas, mientras en el servicio del Señor. Al mismo tiempo que se estaban ofreciendo sacrificios o que estaban enseñando que no podía beber nada con alcor. Esto tiene mucho sentido aún en el día de hoy, donde conduciendo bajo la influencia de un trago de alcor puede mandarte a la cárcel. La mayoría de nosotros sabemos que solo un poco puede comprometer. Un solo traguito de Niquil puede poner uno a dormir. Por esta razón, muchos pastores e iglesias han decidido prohibir a sus pastores bebidas alcohólicas en cualquier tiempo. Si se considera todas las cosas que hoy en día podemos beber, me parece que es un pequeño precio a pagar.

Sé que he tocado este tema antes, pero una vez más, es tan importante para Dios cómo le servimos de que le servimos. Dios no va a llover fuego sobre nosotros en el día de hoy, eso fue otra época. Pero, ¿puede imaginarse el daño creado por ver tu pastor borracho (aunque sea un poco) en el púlpito o en la sala de consejería? Sería tan terrible como el fuego de la presencia de Dios.

Virtud involucra establecer una norma moral que rehusare romper.
