John 2:24 (23-25) “But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them.”

How are you encouraging your brothers?

I thought this was a strange thing to say since I was always taught to spend as much time as I could with any one who makes the decision, helping them take the next steps, 2 Peter 1:5-7. But that is not what John was referring to.

There were a lot of people there for the Passover and it was a time of celebration. There was a lot of excitement in the air because of all the things going on and Jesus was just something else happening. John had just presented to us that fact that Jesus is the Son of God and active in the creation. Jesus didn’t need the acclaim or confirmation of that fact from anyone, in spite of the signs to that fact that He performed, He knew who He was as much as He knew so many of them would change their minds about Jesus later.

But, unlike Jesus, even knowing that we are now children of God we need every bit of recognition or encouragement we can get. We so easily forget the authority we have to proclaim the truth, that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God and the only way to heaven.

As we mature we will learn to be more confident, knowing that our reward is waiting for us in heaven and we need no ones recognition, but it still helps.

Enthusiasm involves discovering how your life can motivate others to praise God and change.

Juan 2:24 (23-25) “Pero Jesús, por su parte, no se confiaba a ellos, porque conocía a todos,”

¿Cómo estás animando a tus hermanos?

Pensé que esto era algo extraño de decir, ya que siempre me enseñaron a pasar el mayor tiempo posible con cualquiera que tome la decisión, ayudándolos a tomar los próximos pasos, 2 Pedro 1:5-7. Pero eso no es a lo que se refería Juan.

Había mucha gente allí para la Pascua y era un momento de celebración. Había mucho entusiasmo en el aire debido a todas las cosas que estaban sucediendo y Jesús era algo más. Juan acaba de presentarnos el hecho de que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios y está activo en la creación. Jesús no necesitaba la reclamación o la confirmación de ese hecho de nadie, a pesar de las señales a ese hecho que Él realizó, sabía quién era tanto como sabía que muchos de ellos cambiarían de opinión acerca de Jesús más tarde.

Pero, a diferencia de Jesús, aun sabiendo que ahora somos hijos de Dios, necesitamos todo el reconocimiento o aliento que podamos obtener. Olvidamos tan fácilmente la autoridad que tenemos para proclamar la verdad, que Jesús es el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente y el único camino al cielo.

A medida que maduramos, aprenderemos a tener más confianza, sabiendo que nuestra recompensa nos espera en el cielo y que no necesitamos el reconocimiento de nadie, pero aún así ayuda.

El entusiasmo involucra el descubrir cómo su vida puede motivar a otras para alabar a Dios y cambiar.

John 1:23 (19-34) “I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord,”

What are you waiting for?

It is interesting that John the Baptist should quote from this passage of Isaiah 40:3. In that passage the voice is a voice of comfort and joy because the suffering of Israel was to stop. Israel had sinned and God had punished her and now it was time to restore her.

The Baptist saw Jesus as “that voice”… the Word. In Isaiah 40:3 of that passage “the voice” says that, man’s words are like his own life, that is, like the grass that grows and withers, 40:8. But His words will stand forever because He is God. The Psalmist tells us that God had spoken in nature and later He spoke to us in the scriptures (Psalm 19), but now He is speaking to us through His Son.

The priests and Levites who heard the Baptist knew what John was talking about, 1:25. They understood that he was talking about the coming of the Messiah, Daniel 9:25. His words were strange because they expected John to say he was the One or at least Elijah (because he looked like an OT prophet, 2 Kings 1:8). In those days many had come saying they were the Messiah and weren’t. Instead, John said that the Messiah was here and would soon show Himself!

John was just preparing the way, getting people to listen to the good news, that God had heard His people’s cry and had sent a Deliverer – the Lord Jesus Christ. But, John was no comfort to the priests and Levites … they were scared.

Attentiveness involves looking, listening and learning the commands of God, the will of God and the way of God.

Juan 1:23 (19-34) “Él dijo: Yo soy la voz del que clama en el desierto: «Enderezad el camino del Señor»,”

¿Que estas esperando?

Es interesante que Juan el Bautista cite este pasaje de Isaías 40:3. En ese pasaje la voz es una voz de consuelo y alegría porque el sufrimiento de Israel iba a cesar. Israel había pecado y Dios la había castigado y ahora era el momento de restaurarla.

El Bautista vio a Jesús como esa “voz” … la Palabra. En Isaías 40:3 de ese pasaje, la “voz” dice que las palabras del hombre son como su propia vida, es decir, como la hierba que crece y se seca, 40:8. Pero Sus palabras permanecerán para siempre porque Él es Dios. El salmista nos dice que Dios había hablado en la naturaleza y luego nos habló en las Escrituras (Salmo 19), pero ahora nos habla a través de Su Hijo.

Los sacerdotes y levitas que escucharon al Bautista sabían de qué estaba hablando Juan, 1:25. Entendieron que estaba hablando de la venida del Mesías, Daniel 9:25. Sus palabras fueron extrañas porque esperaban que Juan dijera que él era el Único o al menos Elías (porque parecía como un profeta del AT, 2 Reyes 1:8). En aquellos días, muchos habían venido diciendo que eran el Mesías y no lo eran. En cambio, Juan dijo que el Mesías estaba aquí y que pronto se mostraría.

Juan estaba preparando el camino, haciendo que la gente escuchara las buenas nuevas, que Dios había escuchado el clamor de su pueblo y había enviado a un Libertador: el Señor Jesucristo. Pero, Juan no fue un consuelo para los sacerdotes y levitas … estaban asustados.

Ser atento involucra mirar, otorgar y aprender los mandamientos de Dios, la voluntad de Dios y el camino de Dios.

John 1:9 (5–18) “There was the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.”

Are you resting?

Since those first days of Jesus ministry there have been a lot of people who have come and gone claiming to be the light we need to find our way in this confusing life we live. John points out that for the past eighty or so years of his life there was and is only one light, our Lord Jesus. Even John the Baptist never claimed to be that light, only a representative of that light, 1:8, 23.

When Jesus came He went first to the Jews, the people God had called out of the world to be His representatives and had failed, 1:11. But they rejected and crucified Him, Daniel 9:26. So He has called another people to do that job, the church, Matthew 16:18. Through Him, Jesus, we can become reconciled to our heavenly Father and become His sons again, like Adam and be His representatives while we live out the rest of our lives, 2 Corinthians 5:20.

To be God’s perfect representatives here on earth the Son of God had to become a man, so He was born just like us and has experienced everything we would normally experience, 1:14. This way, when He asks us to take that step of faith and believe in Him whatever it may cost, we can trust He speaks from personal experience.

Faith involves resting all my hopes for tomorrow on God’s proven promises rather than on man’s faltering word.

Juan 1:9 (5–18) “Existía la luz verdadera que, al venir al mundo, alumbra a todo hombre.”

¿Estas descansando?

Desde esos primeros días del ministerio de Jesús ha habido muchas personas que han ido y venido afirmando ser la luz que necesitamos para encontrar nuestro camino en esta vida confusa que vivimos. Juan señala que durante los últimos ochenta años de su vida hubo y solo hay una luz, nuestro Señor Jesús. Incluso Juan el Bautista nunca afirmó ser esa luz, solo un representante de esa luz, 1:8, 23.

Cuando Jesús vino, fue primero a los Judíos, el pueblo que Dios había llamado del mundo para ser sus representantes y había fallado, 1:11. Pero lo rechazaron y lo crucificaron, Daniel 9:26. Así que ha llamado a otra grupo para hacer ese trabajo, la iglesia, Mateo 16:18. A través de Él, Jesús, podemos reconciliarnos con nuestro Padre celestial y convertirnos en Sus hijos nuevamente, como Adán y ser Sus representantes mientras vivimos el resto de nuestras vidas, 2 Corintios 5:20.

Para ser los representantes perfectos de Dios aquí en la tierra, el Hijo de Dios tenía que convertirse en hombre, así que nació como nosotros y ha experimentado todo lo que normalmente experimentaríamos, 1:14. De esta manera, cuando Él nos pide que tomemos ese paso de fe y creamos en Él cueste lo que cueste, podemos confiar en que Él habla por experiencia personal.

Fe involucra poniendo todas mis esperanzas para el mañana en las promesas seguras del Señor en vez de las palabras inciertas del hombre.

Jude 1:17 (17-23) “But you, beloved, ought to remember…”

Are you staying focused?

There are a lot of things we’re asked to remember. But I think the most important one is to remember who we are and why we’re still here. It is easy to forget whom we are when we discover that some of those “certain persons” (1:4) Jude discusses are from our own family or friends we grew up with. They have become like those described in 1:16.

It can become easy for us to look the other way and ignore some of their comments and actions just to keep them close enough to us so there might still be a chance to save them, 1:23. The problem is that most of the time they are just using you and keeping you from serving in the way you could and should. What’s more, you’re starting to believe or agree with their observations.

There behavior is such that even some of the clothing they wear is evil. It was designed for evil intent (to encourage “ungodly lusts”), 1:18. It is apparel, we as believers should stay away from and not be associated with, 1:23. I’m shocked at the clothing parents are permitting their children to wear today.

The things that will help us remember are: to build your self up in the faith, to pray in the Spirit, to stay in the love of God and not to forget that He is coming, 1:20-21. These are important motivators and reminders while we work with those “certain persons” to bring them to a saving knowledge.

Endurance involves staying focused on our God given objectives in spite of all the distractions Satan will throw our way.

Judas 1:17 (17-23) “Pero vosotros, amados, acordaos…”

¿Estás manteniendo su enfoque?

Hay muchas cosas que se nos pide que recordemos. Pero creo que el más importante es recordar quiénes somos y por qué seguimos aquí. Es fácil olvidar quiénes somos cuando descubrimos que algunas de esas “algunos hombres” (1:4) de las que habla Judas son de nuestra propia familia o amigos con el cual fuimos criados. Se han vuelto como los descritos en 1:16.

Puede ser fácil para nosotros mirar para otro lado e ignorar algunos de sus comentarios y acciones solo para mantenerlos lo suficientemente cerca de nosotros para que todavía haya una oportunidad de salvarlos, 1:23. El problema es que la mayoría de las veces solo lo están usando y evitando que sirva de la manera que podría y debería. Es más, está empezando a creer o estar de acuerdo con sus observaciones.

Su comportamiento es tal que incluso algunas de las prendas que usan son malas. Fue diseñado con malas intenciones (para alentar los “pasiones impías”), 1:18. Es ropa, nosotros como creyentes debemos mantenernos alejados y no asociarnos con, 1:23. Me sorprende la ropa que los padres permiten que sus hijos usen hoy.

Las cosas que nos ayudarán a recordar son: edificarse en la fe, orar en el Espíritu, permanecer en el amor de Dios y no olvidar que Él viene, 1:20-21. Estos son importantes motivadores y recordatorios mientras trabajamos con “algunos hombres” para llevarlos a un conocimiento salvador.

Perdurar involucra manteniendo mi enfoque en las metas que Dios me ha dado no obstante las distracciones que Satanás va usar.

Jude 1:9 (8-16) “But Michael the archangel,”

Do you recognize your place in God’s plan?

Jude continues his criticism of false teachers rebellion against authority by referencing the realm of angels, history and nature.

In this story about Michael we see angels demonstrating respect for structures of authority whether the issue was questionable or not. Comparing them to animals who at least instinctively recognize a danger, 1:9-10.

In the cases of Cain, Balaam and Korah each one looked for a way to get what they wanted while ignoring what they were told in hopes they would not be noticed. Finally there are plenty of examples in nature of things that don’t produce what is expected of them.

So whether it is now, later in history or at the very end those who consistently disobey and disregard God’s principle of authority will be compensated for their behavior.

Humility involves recognizing and accepting where God has put you in life.

Judas 1:9 (8-16) “el arcángel Miguel”

¿Reconoces tu lugar en el plan de Dios?

Judas continúa su crítica de rebelión contra los falsos maestros de la autoridad haciendo referencia al reino de los ángeles, la historia y la naturaleza.

En esta historia sobre Miguel, vemos ángeles que demuestran respeto por las estructuras de autoridad, ya sea que el tema sea cuestionable o no. Comparándolos con animales que al menos instintivamente reconocen un peligro, 1:9-10.

En los casos de Caín, Balaam y Coré, cada uno buscó la manera de obtener lo que quería mientras ignoraban lo que se les decía con la esperanza de que no se les notara. Finalmente, hay muchos ejemplos en la naturaleza de cosas que no producen lo que se espera de ellas.
Entonces, ya sea ahora, más adelante en la historia o al final, aquellos que constantemente desobedecen e ignoran el principio de autoridad de Dios serán compensados por su comportamiento.

Jude 1:5 (5-7) “after saving a people out of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.”

Are you ready to fight?

In 1:4 Jude tells us that false teachers will be judged.

What Jude is doing with the next three verses is similar to what Paul did in 2 Timothy 2:4-6 were he offered three illustrations to emphasis his point. Jude first shows us that if the Jews that came out of Egypt and refused to believe God were judged (Numbers 14); and the angels who followed Satan’s direction (Genesis 6:1-2) also were judged; and finally if God judged those in Sodom and Gomorah (Genesis 19), who like the angels, were sexually immoral would He not also judge these false prophets.

In each case we should notice that the sins of some caused the destruction of others. It is important to stand up to their lies and fight for what you believe.

Loyalty involves not hiding my commitment to God, but using difficult situations to let others see how much I trust Him to run my life.

Judas 1:5 (5-7) “habiendo salvado al pueblo de la tierra de Egipto, destruyó después a los que no creyeron.”

¿Estás listo para luchar?

En 1:4 Judas nos dice que los falsos maestros serán juzgados.

Lo que Judas está haciendo con los siguientes tres versículos es similar a lo que hizo Pablo en 2 Timoteo 2:4-6 donde ofreció tres ilustraciones para enfatizar su punto. Judas primero nos muestra que si los judíos que salieron de Egipto y faltaron en creer en Dios fueron juzgados (Números 14); y los ángeles que siguieron la dirección de Satanás (Génesis 6:1-2) también fueron juzgados; y finalmente, si Dios juzgo a los de Sodoma y Gomorra (Génesis 19), quienes, como los ángeles, eran sexualmente inmorales, ¿no juzgaría también a estos falsos profetas?

En cada caso debemos notar que los pecados de algunos causaron la destrucción de otros. Es importante hacer frente a sus mentiras y luchar por lo que cree.

La lealtad involucra no esconder mi compromiso a Dios, sino usar situaciones difíciles para dejar que otros vean lo mucho que confío en El para manejar mi vida.

2 Timothy 2:23 (20-26) “But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels.”

What kind of vessel are you?

We should each be encouraged that Paul describes the members of God’s congregation as vessels of gold, silver, wood and earthenware. This means that God takes all kinds of people; those who look good and those of us that don’t, short people tall people, fat people skinny people, brilliant people and the rest of us.

The defining quality that makes us valuable to God is that we are all vessels He can fill. But the question we need to ask ourselves is what will be this vessels function? Will I be a vessel that brings honor to the church and God or will I be a vessel that brings dishonor?

Now here Paul tells Timothy to “flee youthful lusts”, 2:22. These lusts are not just of the sexual kind. Those lusts can turn you into a vessel of dishonor. But Paul has been talking about people who get hung up speculating about things we should obviously leave alone. For example there are some who are speculating on the exact time of Jesus’ return. Jesus Himself said that even He didn’t know the time of His return. What is sure in scripture and what we should be keenly aware of is that He will return.

The question is not when but will I, and everyone I come into contact with in my life, be ready? If you are and your friends aren’t, what are you waiting for? Be a vessel of honor!

Persuasiveness involves discovering ways to help others get past their objections and see the truth.

2 Timoteo 2:23 (20-26) “Pero rechaza los razonamientos necios e ignorantes, sabiendo que producen altercados.”

¿Qué tipo de vaso eres?

Todos deberíamos sentirnos animados porque Pablo describe a los miembros de la congregación de Dios como vasos de oro, plata, madera y loza. Esto significa que Dios toma todo tipo de personas; aquellos que se ven bien y aquellos de nosotros que no, gente baja, gente alta, gente gorda, gente delgada, gente brillante y el resto de nosotros.

La cualidad definitoria que nos hace valiosos para Dios es que todos somos vasos que Él puede llenar. Pero la pregunta que debemos hacernos es ¿cuál será la función de estos vasos? ¿Seré un vaso que honra a la iglesia y a Dios o seré un vaso que trae deshonra?

Ahora, aquí Pablo le dice a Timoteo que “Huya, pues, de las pasiones juveniles”, 2:22. Estos deseos no son solo de tipo sexual. Esos deseos pueden convertirte en un recipiente de deshonra. Pero Pablo ha estado hablando de personas que se obsesionan especulando sobre cosas que obviamente deberíamos dejar en paz. Por ejemplo, hay algunos que están especulando sobre el momento exacto del regreso de Jesús. Jesús mismo dijo que ni siquiera Él sabía el momento de su regreso. Lo que está seguro en las Escrituras y de lo que debemos estar muy conscientes es que Él regresará.

La pregunta no es cuándo, sino ¿yo y todas las personas con las que entre en contacto en mi vida estarán listos? Si tu eres y tus amigos no, ¿qué estás esperando? ¡Sea un vaso de honor!

Ser Persuasivo involucra descubrir maneras de ayudar a otros a obtener pasar por alto a sus objeciones y ver la verdad.

2 Peter 3:14 (10-18) “Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless,”

What are you looking for?

Now at the end of his letter, Peter posses an interesting question, are we really looking “for these things”? The things we’re supposedly looking for is the end of God’s current plan for mankind. Right now that means the Rapture, the 7 years of Tribulation and the purification of God’s creation by fire.

Again Peter reminds us that what looks like God’s delay is really His patience with mankind towards the eventual salvation of all those who have been chosen, 3:15. He describes them as at peace with God, spotless before God and blameless before God. The only way a person can be found that way is to have accepted Christ as their personal savior.

So, while we’re still here we need to continue to protect ourselves from the distractions of life by doing our best to become the person God originally intended us to be, Ephesians 2:10, 1 Peter 1:5-7.

Determination involves learning how to reduce a seemingly impossible task to achievable goals.

2 Pedro 3:14 (10-18) “Por tanto, amados, puesto que aguardáis estas cosas, procurad con diligencia ser hallados por Él en paz, sin mancha e irreprensibles,”

¿Qué estás buscando?

Ahora, al final de su carta, Pedro posee una pregunta interesante, ¿realmente estamos buscando “estas cosas”? Las cosas que supuestamente estamos buscando es el final del plan actual de Dios para la humanidad. Ahora mismo eso significa el Rapto, los 7 años de Tribulación y la purificación de la creación de Dios por fuego.

Una vez más, Pedro nos recuerda que lo que parece una demora de Dios es en realidad su paciencia con la humanidad hacia la eventual salvación de todos los que han sido elegidos, 3:15. Los describe como en paz con Dios, sin mancha ante Dios y sin culpa ante Dios. La única forma en que se puede encontrar a una persona de esa manera es haber aceptado a Cristo como su salvador personal.

Entonces, mientras estemos aquí, debemos continuar protegiéndonos de las distracciones de la vida haciendo nuestro mejor esfuerzo para convertirnos en la persona que Dios originalmente quiso que fuéramos, Efesios 2:10, 1 Pedro 1:5-7.

Determinación implica aprender a transformar lo imposible en lo posible.

2 Peter 3:10 (10-18) “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief,”

Are you ready?

Whereas in 1 Thessalonians 5:2 Paul’s emphasis is on the beginning of that day of the Lord, here Peter’s emphasis is on the end. The day of the Lord involves three events, the Tribulation, the Millennial kingdom and the destruction of all we know (3:7, 10) so that a new heaven and earth may be constructed for us, 3:13.

The old, in which we now live, has to be destroyed because it has been infected with sin. All of it is a reminder of what we were. So it needs to be completely erased and started over, it might not include a sea, Revelation 21:1. It will be physical because we were created to live in a physical universe, but it will be different.

Thinking about these things brings up many questions about how we will live, but again, we don’t know when these events will begin, only that it will happen when we least expect them, 3:10. Because of that it should be the first thing on our minds every day as we wake.

May I suggest that we seriously consider enrolling in Peter’s School for Spiritual Enrichment, found in 2 Peter 1:3-11? These steps will help you build character in your life that will help you spot those without character who are here to test you and carry you away, if they can. This will not always seem so easy. Every day we need to get prepared to meet whatever the next batch of challenges will be, challenges that will require our full concentration as we work towards Godliness. One step at a time!

Determination involves learning how to transform the impossible into the possible.

2 Pedro 3:10 (10-18) “Pero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón,”

¿Estás listo?

Mientras que en 1 Tesalonicenses 5:2 el énfasis de Pablo está en el comienzo de ese día del Señor, aquí el énfasis de Pedro está en el final. El día del Señor involucra tres eventos, la Tribulación, el Reino Milenio y la destrucción de todo lo que conocemos (3:7, 10) para que se construyan un cielo y una tierra nuevos para nosotros, 3:13.

Lo viejo, en el que vivimos ahora, tiene que ser destruido porque ha sido infectado con el pecado. Todo es un recordatorio de lo que fuimos. Por lo tanto, debe borrarse por completo y comenzar de nuevo, es posible que no incluya un mar, Apocalipsis 21:1. Será físico porque fuimos creados para vivir en un universo físico, pero será diferente.

Al pensar en estas cosas surgen muchas preguntas sobre cómo viviremos, pero nuevamente, no sabemos cuándo comenzarán estos eventos, solo que sucederán cuando menos los esperemos, 3:10. Por eso, debería ser lo primero en nuestras mentes todos los días al despertar.

¿Puedo sugerir que consideremos seriamente inscribirnos en la Escuela de Enriquecimiento Espiritual de Pedro, que se encuentra en 2 Pedro 1:3-11? Estos pasos te ayudarán a construir el carácter en tu vida que te ayudarán a identificar a aquellos sin carácter que están aquí para ponerte a prueba y desviarte, si pueden. Esto no siempre parecerá tan fácil. Todos los días tenemos que estar preparados para afrontar cualquiera que sea el próximo grupo de desafíos, desafíos que requerirán nuestra total concentración mientras trabajamos hacia la piedad. ¡Un paso a la vez!

Determinación implica aprender a transformar lo imposible en lo posible.

2 Peter 3:9 (1-9) “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”

How will Jesus find you?

So, Peter continues to remind his readers that God has a plan, we are involved and He has not forgotten us. Even though there are those who believe otherwise, 3:3-5. Remember God promised never to destroy the earth with water after the Noah’s flood but he has decided to destroy it by fire, Genesis 9:11, Isaiah 66:15.

Peter helps us to see that God doesn’t perceive time in the same way we do, after all, He is God, 3:8. When Peter says that for God “one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day” he is telling us something about God. Time passes for us but for God it is always now.

What we should understand is that the more it seems like God is delaying His coming the more time we have to help people avoid the fiery judgment to come.

Diligence involves applying the right amount of energy and concentration to the mission God has called us to do.

2 Pedro 3:9 (1-9) “El Señor no se tarda en cumplir su promesa, según algunos entienden la tardanza, sino que es paciente para con vosotros, no queriendo que nadie perezca, sino que todos vengan al arrepentimiento.”

¿Cómo te encontrará Jesús?

Entonces, Pedro continúa recordando a sus lectores que Dios tiene un plan, que estamos involucrados y que no nos ha olvidado. Aunque hay quienes creen lo contrario, 3:3-5. Recuerde que Dios prometió nunca destruir la tierra con agua después del diluvio de Noé, pero ha decidido destruirla con fuego, Génesis 9:11, Isaías 66:15.

Pedro nos ayuda a ver que Dios no percibe el tiempo de la misma manera que nosotros, después de todo, Él es Dios, 3:8. Cuando Pedro dice que para Dios “un día es como mil años, y mil años como un día”, nos está diciendo algo acerca de Dios. El tiempo pasa para nosotros pero para Dios siempre es ahora.

Lo que debemos entender es que cuanto más parece que Dios está retrasando Su venida, más tiempo tenemos para ayudar a las personas a evitar el juicio ardiente que vendrá.

Diligencia involucra aplicar la cantidad correcta de energía y concentración a la misión que Dios nos ha llamado a realizar.
