Luke 4:40 (38-44, Mark 1:29-39) “While the sun was setting,”

What is your testimony like?

I like to think that Peter had moved his mother-in-law into his house to take better care of her and it happened that when Jesus was in the area she got very sick. I say this because I really believe that children owe their parents the time their parents spent raising them.

I thought it was interesting that both Mark and Luke mention that after Jesus left the synagogue (4:31-37) the people didn’t seem to be interested enough in Jesus message to follow Him and ask for an explanation. Yet, when they had heard He was healing people, even though it was dark, they came looking for Him. It’s like they were only interested when He had something miraculous to offer.

There are a lot of people who go to church all the time looking for what the church has to offer them. It is a shame when all we have to offer is entertainment. My hope is that our churches offer the healing of their relationship with God and then with each other, before anything else. I’m saying that there are a lot of people who are not believers attending our churches living a double life, having made no real commitment to Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior because they haven’t see the miracle God has performed in your life.

Courage involves our willingness to live out the principles of scripture regardless of the opposition we will face.

Lucas 4:40 (38-44, Mark 1:29-39) “Al ponerse el sol,”

¿Cómo esta tu testimonio?

Me gusta pensar que Pedro había trasladado a su suegra a su casa para cuidarla mejor y sucedió que cuando Jesús estaba en el área, ella se enfermó. Digo esto porque realmente creo que los hijos deben a sus padres el tiempo que sus padres pasaron criándolos.

Pensé que era interesante que tanto Marco como Lucas mencionan que después de que Jesús salió de la sinagoga (4:31-37) la gente no parecía estar lo suficientemente interesada en el mensaje de Jesús como para seguirlo y pedirle una explicación. Sin embargo, cuando oyeron que estaba sanando a las personas, aunque estaba oscuro, vinieron a buscarlo. Es como si solo estuvieran interesados ​​cuando tenía algo milagroso que ofrecer.

Hay muchas personas que van a la iglesia todo el tiempo buscando lo que la iglesia tiene para ofrecerles. Es una pena cuando todo lo que tenemos para ofrecer es entretenimiento. Mi esperanza es que nuestras iglesias puedan ofrecer una cura para su relación con Dios y luego entre sí, antes que nada. Estoy diciendo que hay muchas personas que no son creyentes que asisten a nuestras iglesias que viven una doble vida, que no se han comprometido realmente con Jesús como su Señor y Salvador personal porque no han visto el milagro que Dios ha realizado en su vida.

Valentía involucra nuestro deseo de vivir los principios de las Escrituras sin importar la oposición que enfrentaremos.

Luke 4:36(31-37)“What is this message?”

Are you really listening?

Mark (1:21-28) mentions this story as well and in both accounts what interested me was the question made by those present. There is nothing wrong with asking questions. Good questions (not any) lead to better understanding.

As Jesus was sitting and teaching in the synagogue a man stood up and started shouting, being under the control of a demon (former angels who followed Lucifer rather than the God who made them). The message he shouted was that he recognized Jesus as the Son of God.

Jesus told him to be quiet because He wants us to look at His work and compare it with the prophecies of the Bible and come to our own conclusion rather than just accepting anything we’re told by the preacher/teacher.

But, even with the help of a demon the people didn’t believe. They sat there and tried to figure out what this incident meant even though the clear message of the demon, that Jesus is the Son of God and His authority to say and do anything is that of God Himself was ignored.

Sometimes what we’re looking for is more complicated than what it really is.

Attentivenessinvolves looking, listening and learning the will of God, the way of God and the commands of God.

Lucas 4:36(31-37)“¿Qué mensaje es éste?”

¿Estás realmente escuchando?

Marcos (1:21-28) también menciona esta historia y en ambos casos lo que me interesó fue la pregunta hecha por los presentes. No hay nada de malo en hacer preguntas. Las buenas preguntas (no cualquiera) conducen a una mejor comprensión.

Mientras Jesús estaba sentado y enseñando en la sinagoga, un hombre se puso de pie y comenzó a gritar, estando bajo el control de un demonio (antiguos ángeles que siguieron a Lucifer en lugar del Dios que los creó). El mensaje que gritó fue que reconoció a Jesús como el Hijo de Dios.

Jesús le dijo que se callara porque quiere que miremos su obra y la comparemos con las profecías de la Biblia y lleguemos a nuestra propia conclusión en lugar de simplemente aceptar cualquier cosa que el predicador / maestro nos diga.

Pero, incluso con la ayuda de un demonio, la gente no creía. Se sentaron allí y trataron de entender qué significaba este incidente a pesar del mensaje claro del demonio, que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios y su autoridad para decir y hacer cualquier cosa, es que Dios mismo fue ignorado.

A veces, lo que estamos buscando es más complicado de lo que realmente es.

Luke 4:21(14-30)“Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

Are you ready?

Mark also talks about this incident and points out that although the people of Jesus hometown had heard of His wonders they were already offended, instead of overjoyed, perhaps because He had not started there, making them famous along with Jesus (Mark 6:1-6).

Although Jesus grew up as a construction worker, somewhere in His life He had earned the teachers shawl, because when He entered the synagogue He was recognized as a teacher; like Paul who was a tent maker and a teacher.

It’s interesting that Jesus didn’t finish the quote from Isaiah 61:2. The passage (Isaiah 61:1-2) spoke of the two aspects of the work of the Messiah and Jesus here claimed to be fulfilling the first part; proclaiming the good news, that salvation was being made available to all (Jew and Gentile alike). The second part will be the day of vengeance, which is still to come.

Let’s not become so complacent with the first part of the prophecy that we forget the second part. Jesus is coming again and the question is, will He find us complaining or serving?

Lucas 4:21(14-30)“Y comenzó a decirles: Hoy se ha cumplido esta Escritura que habéis oído.”

¿Estás preparado?

Marcos también habla sobre este incidente y señala que aunque la gente de la ciudad de Jesús había oído hablar de sus maravillas, ya estaban ofendidos, en lugar de estar contentos, tal vez porque no había comenzado allí, haciéndolos famosos junto con Jesús (Marcos 6: 1- 6)

Aunque Jesús creció como obrero de la construcción, en algún momento de su vida se había ganado el chal de los maestros, porque cuando entró en la sinagoga fue reconocido como un maestro; como Pablo, que era carpintero y maestro.

Es interesante que Jesús no terminó la cita de Isaías 61:2. El pasaje (Isaías 61:1-2) habló de los dos aspectos de la obra del Mesías y Jesús aquí afirmó cumplir la primera parte; proclamando las buenas noticias, que la salvación se estaba a la disposición de todos (judíos y gentiles por igual). La segunda parte será el día de la venganza, que aún está por llegar.

No seamos tan complacientes con la primera parte de la profecía que olvidemos la segunda parte. Jesús viene de nuevo y la pregunta es: ¿nos encontrará quejándonos o sirviendo?

Valentíainvolucra aprender que tus palabras y acciones cuando basadas en la autoridad de las escrituras complacen a Dios.

Luke 4:1-2(1-13)“Jesus full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil.”

Who is testing you now?

Something else I think we should notice about Jesus’ temptation experience, He was lead by the Holy Spirit into it. Matthew, Mark and Luke use the same word for tempt (peirazo), which means to be proven or tested. The Greek word can be used in the sense of to see if a person is ready for a task or in the sense of to attract away from a task.

It is a matter of perspective. From Satan’s point of view he is always trying to get us to fail in our job of representing our Lord wherever we are. But, from God’s perspective He is insuring that we are ready to go on to the next step or level of maturity, 2 Peter 1:5-8. James uses the same word when he warns believers to always look at their situation as a test that is moving us along on a path towards readiness, James 1:2-4.

What I’m trying to point out is that we won’t always know whether the problems of life we face are of our own making or of God. When faced with a problem the best thing we can do is assume it is a test and respond accordingly (4:2) rather then react to God and assume the ridiculous (which is what Satan wants you to do).

Joyfulnessinvolves looking past present difficulties to what God might be doing.

Lucas 4:1-2(1-13)“Jesús, lleno del Espíritu Santo, volvió del Jordán y fue llevado por el^[a] Espíritu en el desiertopor cuarenta días, siendo tentado por el diablo.”

¿Quién te está probando ahora?

Algo más que creo que deberíamos notar sobre la experiencia de la tentación de Jesús, es que fue guiado por el Espíritu Santo hacia ella. Mateo, Marcos y Lucas usan la misma palabra para tentar (peirazo), que significa ser probado. La palabra griega se puede usar en el sentido de ver si una persona está lista para una tarea o en el sentido de alejarse de una tarea.

Es una cuestión de perspectiva. Desde el punto de vista de Satanás, él siempre está tratando de hacernos fracasar en nuestro trabajo de representar a nuestro Señor dondequiera que estemos. Pero, desde la perspectiva de Dios, Él se asegura de que estemos listos para pasar al siguiente paso o nivel de madurez, 2 Pedro 1:5-8. Santiago usa la misma palabra cuando advierte a los creyentes que siempre vean su situación como una prueba que nos está llevando por un camino hacia la preparación, Santiago 1:2-4.

Lo que intento señalar es que no siempre sabremos si los problemas de la vida que enfrentamos son de nuestra propia creación o de Dios. Cuando nos enfrentamos a un problema, lo mejor que podemos hacer es asumir que es una prueba y responder en consecuencia (4:2) en lugar de reaccionar ante Dios y asumir lo ridículo (que es lo que Satanás quiere que hagas).

Gozo involucra mirando mas allá de las dificultades a lo que Dios puede estar haciendo.

Luke 4:12(1-13)“And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

What’s your God given mission that Satan is trying to stop you from fulfilling?

Luke records three temptations: bread (my natural appetites), possessions (the accumulation of stuff) and fame (the desire to be somebody). John points out these same human weaknesses in 1John 2:16, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.’” Here, I think, Luke helps us see how even Satan recognized that Jesus was a man. He waited until Jesus was at His weakest physically and then attacked Him on those human terms, 4:2.

Did you notice too that Satan’s attacks were carefully crafted for Jesus alone? First he tried to get Jesus to exercise His power as God to meet a physical need that is to do whatever it takes, 4:3. Second he tried to get Jesus to by pass God’s plan in favor of a quicker less painful plan, that is the easy way out, 4:5-7. And finally, he tried to appeal to His vanity by pointing out that, as the Messiah He deserved special consideration, 4:9-11.

Since, Hebrews 4:15 says that Jesus was tempted in all things as we are; do you think we would be treated any differently by Satan today? What we should notice is that throughout this experience, Jesus maintained His focus. He knew that Satan was trying to stop Him from fulfilling His mission.

Enduranceinvolves staying focused on our God given objectives in spite of all the distractions Satan will throw our way.

Lucas 4:12(1-13)“Respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Se ha dicho: “No tentaras^[a] al Señor tu Dios.”

¿Cuál es tu misión dada por Dios que Satanás está tratando de evitar que cumplas?

Lucas registra tres tentaciones: pan (mis apetitos naturales), posesiones (la acumulación de cosas) y fama (el deseo de ser alguien). Juan señala estas mismas debilidades humanas en 1 Juan 2:16, “Porque todo lo que hay en el mundo, la pasión de la carne, la pasión de los ojos y la arrogancia de la vida^[a], no proviene del Padre, sino del mundo.” Aquí, creo que, Lucas nos ayuda a ver cómo incluso Satanás reconoció que Jesús era un hombre. Esperó hasta que Jesús estuvo físicamente en su punto más débil y luego lo atacó en esos términos humanos, 4:2.

¿Notaste también que los ataques de Satanás fueron cuidadosamente diseñados para Jesús solo? Primero trató de hacer que Jesús ejerciera su poder como Dios para satisfacer una necesidad física que es hacer lo que sea necesario, 4:3. Segundo, trató de hacer que Jesús pasara por alto el plan de Dios a favor de un plan más rápido y menos doloroso, esa es la salida fácil, 4:5-7. Y finalmente, trató de apelar a su vanidad señalando que, como el Mesías, merecía una consideración especial, 4:9-11.

Siendo que Hebreos 4:15 dice que Jesús fue tentado en todas las cosas como nosotros; ¿crees que Satanás nos trataría de manera diferente hoy? Lo que debemos notar es que a lo largo de esta experiencia, Jesús mantuvo su enfoque. Sabía que Satanás estaba tratando de evitar que cumpliera su misión.

Perdurarinvolucra manteniendo mi enfoque en las metas que Dios me ha dado no obstante las distracciones que Satanás va usar.

Luke 3:23(23-38)“When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, the son of Eli,”

What are your spiritual roots?

In comparing the genealogies of Matthew with that of Luke we can see that Matthew stresses Jesus Jewish heritage, because he starts with Abraham and at the same time establishing Jesus right to the throne of David. Luke stresses Jesus humanity by going back to His connection with Adam. In a sense those who came before Him made everything Jesus did or could do possible.

My brother tried establishing a genealogy for our family years ago and it was interesting (we even went to Puerto Rico to search some church records). I have no idea where all that stuff is now and neither does he (today, with the internet, it’s easier). In Biblical times a record was kept to prove property ownership.

Back when I was in the Second grade (March 31, 1957) my name was added to the genealogy of Christ. Everything I’ve done for the Lord has been made possible through her (Miss Margaret Grace Tolosa). For me it is a proof of ownership, I belong to Him. Have you ever tried to establish your own spiritual genealogy?

Lucas 3:23(23-38)“Y cuando comenzó su ministerio, Jesús mismo tenía unos treinta años, siendo, como se suponía^[a], hijo de José, quien era hijo de Elí,”

¿Cuáles son tus raíces espirituales?

Al comparar las genealogías de Mateo con la de Lucas, podemos ver que Mateo enfatiza la herencia judía de Jesús, porque comienza con Abraham y al mismo tiempo establece a Jesús directamente en el trono de David. Lucas enfatiza a la humanidad de Jesús volviendo a su conexión con Adán. En cierto sentido, aquellos que vinieron antes que Él hicieron todo lo que Jesús hizo o pudo hacer posible.

Mi hermano intentó establecer una genealogía para nuestra familia hace años y fue interesante (incluso fuimos a Puerto Rico a buscar algunos registros de la iglesia). No tengo idea de dónde están todas esas cosas ahora y él tampoco (hoy, con Internet, es más fácil). En tiempos bíblicos se mantenía un registro para probar la propiedad.

Cuando estaba en segundo grado (31 de marzo de 1957) mi nombre fue agregado a la genealogía de Cristo. Todo lo que he hecho por el Señor ha sido posible a través de ella (Miss Margaret Grace Tolosa). Para mí es una prueba de propiedad, le pertenezco. ¿Alguna vez has tratado de establecer tu propia genealogía espiritual?

Luke 3:8(1-22)“Therefore bear fruit in keeping with repentance,”

What’s your testimony like?

How many of you remember who the President of your country was when you got married; or the governor of the state or mayor of the city? Luke gives a lot of detail to ground us in the fact the story he is telling is verifiable History, 3:1-3.

In this passage we also see how John was turning the hearts of even those he disliked back to the God they said they were loyal to, 3:7. He tells them all to show proof of their words of repentance, 3:8. Then he told them what the fruit should look like. That those who have are to share with those that don’t have (it is not, necessarily, the governments responsibility), don’t cheat just because you can, and don’t complain about your job (where would todays unions be), just do it, 3:10-14.

The fruit of repentance that John spoke of is that of a changed life, where we leave behind the old way of living and begin to follow God’s principles of living. It is how we, today should be living. The fruit of repentance is also how we demonstrate to others the blessing of being a believers.

Lucas 3:8(1-22)“Por tanto, dad frutos dignos de arrepentimiento;”

¿Cómo esta su testimonio?

¿Cuántos de ustedes recuerdan quién era el presidente de su país cuando se casaron? o el gobernador del estado o el alcalde de la ciudad? Lucas da muchos detalles para verificable que los datos de que la historia que está contando son verdadera Historia, 3:1-3.

En este pasaje también vemos cómo Juan estaba volviendo aun los corazones de aquellos a quienes no le gustaba, de regreso al Dios al que le dijeron que eran leales, 3:7. Les dice a todos que muestren pruebas de sus palabras de arrepentimiento, 3:8. Luego les dijo cómo debería ser la fruta. Que los que tienen que compartir con los que no tienen (no es, necesariamente, la responsabilidad del gobierno), no engañen solo porque pueden, y no se quejen de su trabajo (¿dónde estarían los sindicatos de hoy?), solo hazlo, 3:10-14.

El fruto del arrepentimiento del que habló Juan es el de una vida cambiada, donde dejamos atrás la vieja forma de vivir y comenzamos a seguir los principios de vida de Dios. Es como nosotros, hoy, deberíamos estar viviendo. El fruto del arrepentimiento es también cómo demostramos a otros la bendición de ser creyentes.

Luke 2:49(39-52)“Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?”

Who’s preparing you?

I guess you can say that it’s kind of funny how time seems to erase even the most important things of life. In twelve years Mary and Joseph had forgotten what the angel Gabriel had told both of them about their unusual child and what He would mean to the world.

Just like in the “Home Alone” movie no one noticed that Jesus wasn’t with the group returning to Nazareth (over 90 miles north of Jerusalem). They had gone about a day’s journey before realizing that Jesus wasn’t with them (probably about a 3^rdof the way), but I can only imagine Mary screaming, just like in the movie.

In hindsight there should have been a lot of pride by these parents because all the facts Jesus had in His head came from them, there was no magic He had been homeschooled. Good parenting involves the physical and mental health of the child, but it also includes developing a right relationship with both God and others around you, 2:40, 52. Then you can be sure that even if you forget you kids God will watch them for you, 2:40.

Lucas 2:49(39-52)“Entonces El les dijo: ¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿Acaso no sabíais que me era necesario estar en la casa^[a] de mi Padre?”

¿Quién te está preparando?

Supongo que se puede decir que es curioso cómo el tiempo parece borrar incluso las cosas más importantes de la vida. En doce años, María y José habían olvidado lo que el ángel Gabriel les había contado a ambos sobre su hijo inusual y lo que significaría para el mundo.

Al igual que en la película “Solo en casa”, nadie notó que Jesús no estaba con el grupo que regresaba a Nazaret (más de 90 millas al norte de Jerusalén). Habían emprendido el viaje de un día antes de darse cuenta de que Jesús no estaba con ellos (probablemente un tercio del camino), pero solo puedo imaginar a María gritando, al igual que en la película.

En retrospectiva, estos padres deberían haber sentido mucho orgullo porque todos los datos que Jesús tenía en su cabeza provenían de ellos, no había magia que le habían enseñado en casa. La buena crianza de los hijos implica la salud física y mental del niño, pero también incluye el desarrollo de una relación correcta con Dios y con los que te rodean, 2:40, 52. Entonces puedes estar seguro de que incluso si te olvidas de tus hijos, Dios los verá. para ti, 2:40.

Luke 2:32(21-38)“A light of revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.”

What are you doing for God?

I found it interesting that Simeon points out that part of Jesus ministry was to the Gentiles, Isaiah 9:2, 49:6, Acts 13:46-47. John then came to the Jews to prepare them for the coming of their Messiah; John spoke to Jews. But Jesus message was not just to Jew but Gentile as well.

I’ve mentioned this before, the problem with Israel is that they have forgotten their mission on this earth to be a light (Matthew 5:13-16) for all mankind to find their One and only GOD. But, they failed in that duty.

The church now has taken on that responsibility, Romans 9-11. It is precisely because we are not a nation that the churches witness has continued to shine, although at times not very well, throughout it’s history. Our job (of being a light) won’t be done until our Lord says so, and He hasn’t, yet.

Availabilityinvolves getting and staying busy with God given priorities and getting rid of those things that would get in the way.

Lucas 2:32(21-38)“luz de^[a] revelación a los gentiles,y gloria de tu pueblo Israel.”

¿Qué estas haciendo por Dios?

Me pareció interesante que Simeón señalara que parte del ministerio de Jesús fue para los gentiles, Isaías 9:2, 49:6, Hechos 13:46-47. Juan luego vino a los judíos para prepararlos para la venida de su Mesías; Juan habló a los judíos. Pero el mensaje de Jesús no fue solo para los judíos sino también para los gentiles.

He mencionado esto antes, el problema con Israel es que han olvidado que su misión en esta tierra de ser una luz (Mateo 5:13-16) para que toda la humanidad encuentre a su único DIOS. Pero, fallaron en ese deber.

La iglesia ahora ha asumido esa responsabilidad, Romanos 9-11. Precisamente porque no somos una nación, el testimonio de las iglesias ha seguido brillando, aunque a veces no muy bien, a lo largo de su historia. Nuestro trabajo (de ser una luz) no se hará hasta que nuestro Señor lo diga, y aún no lo ha hecho.

Disponibilidadinvolucra encontrarse y mantenerse ocupado con las prioridades de Dios y rechazar cualquier cosa que se mete en el medio.

Luke 2:19(1-20)“But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.”

What has God done for you?

One of Luke’s purposes is to show us that Jesus is the Christ by way of the multitude of the facts that verify this assertion. So he doesn’t spend much time on each event other than to establish the facts.

This census was probably conducted for the purpose of insuring that the taxes were being collected accurately. But, it is just as likely that it was to show off how big the empire had become. Yet, in the middle of all the confusion over the census Luke does point out that Mary was aware of all the things that were happening to her and Joseph and now her little son.

Remember that at this time many were expecting the coming of the Messiah. Because it’s been around 2,000 years since these events it can be easy for us to just forget. But Mary was adding up the things that were happening that proved what she was told by Gabriel.

Sometime we too easily forget the things God is doing for us in the moment, how He is showing Himself to us and giving us direction for our lives, which reminds us that our presence here still has meaning and purpose. Don’t forget who you are in Christ.

Lucas 2:19(1-20)“Pero María atesoraba todas estas cosas, reflexionando sobre ellas en su corazón.”

¿Qué ha hecho Dios por ti?

Uno de los propósitos de Lucas es mostrarnos que Jesús es el Cristo a través de la multitud de datos que verifican esta afirmación. Por lo tanto, no pasa mucho tiempo en cada evento que no sea para establecer los datos.

Este censo probablemente se realizó con el propósito de asegurar que los impuestos se recaudaran con precisión. Pero, es igual de probable que fuera para mostrar cuán grande se había convertido el imperio. Sin embargo, en medio de toda la confusión sobre el censo, Lucas señala que María estaba al tanto de todas las cosas que le estaban pasando a ella, a José y ahora a su pequeño hijo.

Recuerde que en este momento muchos esperaban la venida del Mesías. Debido a que han pasado alrededor de 2,000 años desde estos eventos, puede ser fácil para nosotros olvidarlo. Pero Mary estaba sumando las cosas que estaban sucediendo que demostraron lo que le dijo Gabriel.

En algunas veces olvidamos demasiado fácilmente las cosas que Dios está haciendo por nosotros en este momento, cómo Se está mostrando a nosotros y dándonos dirección para nuestras vidas, que nos hace recordar que nuestra presencia aquí todavía tiene significado y propósito. No olvides quién eres en Cristo.

Disponibilidadinvolucra encontrarse y mantenerse ocupado con las prioridades de Dios y rechazar cualquier cosa que se mete en el medio.
