Numbers 10:2 (1-10) “Make yourself two trumpets of silver, of hammered work you shall make them; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation and for having the camps set out.”

For what are you listening?

It is said that these trumpets were long and flared at one end. As you can see their purpose was to call the people together for a word from God though Moses. The second reason the trumpets sounded was to have the camp set out on its next destination.

I can only imagine what it must have sounded like when the trumpets sounded. Everyone in the immediate and surrounding area could hear it echoing everywhere. Imagine the fear it might create in the hearing of the surrounding villages.

There will come a day, sooner than we think, when only those who believe will hear those trumpets sound. And the church will be called up together, because it will be time for us to move on to our next destination, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. Maranatha!

Faith involves letting God do what He does while you do what your supposed to do.

Números 10:2 (1-10) “Hazte dos trompetas de plata; las harás labradas a martillo. Y te servirán para convocar a la congregación y para dar la orden de poner en marcha los campamentos.”

¿Para qué estás escuchando?

Se dice que estas trompetas eran largas y flameaban en un extremo. Como puede ver, su propósito era reunir al pueblo para recibir una palabra de Dios a través de Moisés. La segunda razón por la que sonaron las trompetas fue para que el campamento se prepare en su próximo destino.

Solo puedo imaginar cómo debe haber sonado cuando sonaron las trompetas. Todos en el área inmediata y circundante podían escucharlo haciendo eco en todas partes. Imagínese el miedo que podría crear en los pueblos de los alrededores.

Llegará un día, antes de lo que pensamos, en el que sólo los que crean escucharán sonar esas trompetas. Y la iglesia será convocada junta, porque será el momento de pasar a nuestro próximo destino, 1 Tesalonicenses 4:16-17. ¡Maranata!

Fe implica dejar que Dios haga lo que le toca a Él mientras yo hago lo que me toca a mi.

Numbers 9:22 (15-23) “Whether it was two days or a month or a year that the cloud lingered over the tabernacle, staying above it, the sons of Israel remained camped and did not set out; but when it was lifted, they did set out.”

Are you ready to go?

Talk about being ready to go! At any time, day or night, Israel had to be ready to go. Everything had to be mobile, the ultimate campers dream. Everything you owned you had to be able to move when God needed you to go. They were always in a state of preparedness for the call to go.

Of course, today, we are under His command to “Go therefore and make disciples…”, Matthew 28:19. What we may sometimes forget is that we are always to be prepared to GO at a moments notice to wherever the Lord may lead us, even though we don’t have a column of smoke or fire directing us.

As Israel was not directing itself, we as the church or as individuals should be waiting for the directive to go. Because we don’t know for how long we may be here; we must always leave a good testimony of who our God is, what He has done for us, and what He can do for those we leave behind.

Discernment involves maintaining our focus on God’s goals as we evaluate people, problems and things.

Números 9:22 (15-23) “Ya fuera que la nube se detuviera sobre el tabernáculo permaneciendo sobre él dos días, o un mes, o un año, los hijos de Israel permanecían acampados y no partían; pero cuando se levantaba, partían.”

¿Estas listo para ir?

¡Habla sobre estar listo para empezar! En cualquier momento, de día o de noche, Israel tenía que estar listo para partir. Todo tenía que ser móvil, el último sueño de los campistas. Todo lo que poseías, tenías que poder moverlo cuando Dios necesitaba que te fueras. Siempre estaban en un estado de preparación para la llamada.

Por supuesto, hoy estamos bajo Su mandato de “Por tanto, id, y haced discípulos …”, Mateo 28:19. Lo que a veces olvidamos es que siempre debemos estar preparados para IR en cualquier momento a donde el Señor nos lleve, aunque no tengamos una columna de humo o fuego dirigiéndonos.

Como Israel no se estaba dirigiendo a sí mismo, nosotros, como iglesia o como individuos, deberíamos estar esperando la directiva de ir. Porque no sabemos cuánto tiempo estaremos aquí; siempre debemos dejar un buen testimonio de quién es nuestro Dios, lo que ha hecho por nosotros y lo que puede hacer por aquellos que dejamos atrás.

Discernimiento involucra mantener un enfoque en las metas de Dios al evaluar gente, problemas y cosas.

Numbers 9:6 (9:1-14) “But there were some men who were unclean because of the dead person,”

What’s important to you?

God is as interested in the way you observe His laws as He is in that you observe them. In the same way some people went to Moses the question what do we do if we’re unable to perform the Passover meal on time? So, Moses got them an answer from God, 9:8.

Waiting ‘til the next month gave them time to make the preparations for the observance. Which probably included the observance of Unleavened Bread and First fruits. Notice also that the event was not canceled, just postponed.

Although we are no longer required to observe these feasts there is a sense of urgency to remain faithful to those events that help you remember who God is and what He has done for you and your family. Today our main memorial observance is the Lord’s Supper.

Loyalty involves not hiding my commitment to God, but using difficult situations to let others see how much I trust Him to run my life.

Números 9:6 (9:1-14) “Pero había algunos hombres que estaban inmundos por causa de una persona muerta,”

¿Qué es importante para ti?

Dios está tan interesado en la forma en que observas sus leyes como en que las observes. De la misma manera, algunas personas le preguntaron a Moisés: ¿qué hacemos si no podemos realizar la cena de Pascua a tiempo? Entonces, Moisés les dio una respuesta de Dios, 9:8.

Esperar hasta el mes siguiente les dio tiempo para hacer los preparativos para la observancia. Lo que probablemente incluía la observancia de los panes sin levadura y las primicias. Tenga en cuenta también que el evento no se canceló, solo se pospuso.

Aunque ya no estamos obligados a observar estas fiestas, existe un sentido de urgencia de permanecer fieles a esos eventos que le ayudan a recordar quién es Dios y lo que ha hecho por usted y su familia. Hoy nuestra principal celebración conmemorativa es la Cena del Señor.

Numbers 8:25 (1-26) “But at the age of fifty years they shall retire…

How much time do you have left?

This chapter describes how the Levites were to be prepared and dedicated for their service. They were then to work (as priests and caretakers of the tabernacle) from the age of twenty-five until the age of fifty. Numbers 4:3 suggests there was a five year training program. Just twenty-five years of service. After which, I’m sure, they spent the rest of their lives helping their brothers and teaching the people the Law, 8:26.

Remember that Israel later left Mt. Sinai and went directly to their Promised Land where they were too afraid to go in and the Lord banned them from entering for forty years. This first group would then have served until the twenty-fifth year and a new group would have gone on duty. Fifteen years later they would have been the ones to enter into the land under the leadership of Joshua.

I don’t know how much time He has for each of us to perform whatever service He has left us here to do, or for our training, Ephesians 2:10. Could be twenty-five or could be fifty years. Unlike Israel’s wasted forty years in the wilderness, we should get about the business of preparing to serve our Lord when He is ready for us. Don’t let the distractions of life keep you from your opportunity to serve.

Responsibility involves learning to establish personal disciplines to help you become the person God wants you to be.

Números 8:25 (1-26) “Pero a los cincuenta años se jubilarán…”

¿Cuanto tiempo te queda?

Este capítulo describe cómo los levitas debían estar preparados y dedicados para su servicio. Luego debían trabajar (como sacerdotes y cuidadores del tabernáculo) desde los veinticinco años hasta los cincuenta. Números 4:3 sugiere que hubo un programa de capacitación de cinco años. Solo veinticinco años de servicio. Después de lo cual, estoy seguro, pasaron el resto de sus vidas ayudando a sus hermanos y enseñando al pueblo la Ley, 8:26.

Recuerde que Israel más tarde salieron del monte Sinaí y fueron directamente a su Tierra Prometida donde tenían demasiado miedo de entrar y el Señor les prohibió entrar por cuarenta años. Este primer grupo habría servido hasta el vigésimo quinto año y un nuevo grupo habría entrado en servicio. Quince años después habrían sido ellos los que hubieran entrado en la tierra bajo el liderazgo de Josué.

No sé cuánto tiempo tiene Él para que cada uno de nosotros realice el servicio que Él nos dejó aquí para hacer, o para nuestro entrenamiento, Efesios 2:10. Pueden ser veinticinco o cincuenta años. A diferencia de los cuarenta años de Israel desperdiciados en el desierto, debemos ocuparnos de la tarea de prepararnos para servir a nuestro Señor cuando Él esté listo para nosotros. No dejes que las distracciones de la vida te impidan tener la oportunidad de servir.

Responsabilidad involucra aprender a establecer disciplinas personales para ayudarlo a convertirse en la persona que Dios quiere que sea.

Numbers 7:89 (1-89) “Now when Moses went into the tent of meeting to speak to Him, he heard the voice speaking to him…”

How meticulous are you?

In this chapter we see detailed the gifts of all twelve leaders of the tribes for the dedication to the Tabernacle. This record could be used to prove how generous each one was, but actually John 14:21 is previewed here in verse 89. Jesus promises His disciples (just before He was to be taken away) that if they would pay attention to detail he would understand that they loved Him as much as He loved them and would always be there for them through whatever they were experiencing. I know I’m not quoting the verse exactly. But, you get the idea, keeping God’s commandments is not supposed to be a chore.

Obeying God exactly is supposed to be our response to all that He has done already. Our gratitude should lead us to conclude that there is only one who deserves our commitment. Demonstrating that gratitude (for giving us life and including us in His family) by obeying His rules. So, His instructions for living shouldn’t be a burden.

Too many times we come to God when we have placed ourselves in trouble because we have failed to obey His direction. And, then demand that God get us out of that trouble. Why should He? God is merciful, but why should we live that way (hoping for mercy) when we can live in the constant love of God in the first place.

Thoroughness involves understanding what details are important to insure the success of any project.

Números 7:89 (1-89) “Y al entrar Moisés en la tienda de reunión para hablar con el Señor, oyó la voz que le hablaba…”

¿Qué tan meticuloso eres?

En este capítulo vemos detallados los dones de los doce líderes de las tribus para la dedicación al Tabernáculo. Este registro podría usarse para demostrar cuán generoso era cada uno, pero en realidad Juan 14:21 se muestra aquí en el versículo 89. Jesús promete a sus discípulos (justo antes de que lo llevaran) que si prestan atención a los detalles, él entendería que lo amaban tanto como Él los amaba y que siempre estaría allí para ellos a través de cualquier cosa que estuvieran experimentando. Sé que no estoy citando el versículo exactamente. Pero entiendes la idea, se supone que guardar los mandamientos de Dios no debería ser una tarea.

Se supone que obedecer exactamente a Dios es nuestra respuesta a todo lo que Él ya ha hecho. Nuestro agradecimiento debe llevarnos a concluir que solo hay uno que merece nuestro compromiso. Demostrar esa gratitud (por darnos la vida e incluirnos en Su familia) al obedecer Sus reglas. Entonces, sus instrucciones para vivir no deberían ser una carga.

Demasiadas veces acudimos a Dios cuando nos hemos metido en problemas porque no hemos obedecido Su dirección. Y luego exijamos que Dios nos saque de ese problema. ¿Por qué debería hacerlo? Dios es misericordioso, pero ¿por qué deberíamos vivir de esa manera (esperando misericordia) cuando podemos vivir en el amor constante de Dios en primer lugar?

La atención a los detalles implica el entender que detalles son importantes para asegurar el éxito de cualquier proyecto.

NumNumbers 6:5 (1-27) “All the days of his vow of separation no razor shall pass over his head.”

Have you made a vow, kept a vow?

At some point in the lives of Samson, Samuel, John the Baptist and Paul a Nazirite vow was taken be each of them. Each would have been well noticed because they would all have long hair and probably a long beard. They would also have been very particular about the company they kept and the food they eat. I would guess these vows were intended to be serious and short.

I think it is important for us to understand that when this person took his Nazirite vow he wasn’t looking at the restrictions as limiting his personal freedoms, but as enabling him to focus his attention on the purpose of the vow. That vow was probably a task God had assigned them.

Today we live in a culture where my rights or what I think are my rights are more important than my spiritual needs. A Nazirite vow would be unthinkable. But again the purpose of any vow is to focus your energy and attention on fulfilling a commitment made, like marriage, and anything that would get in the way would have to be set aside.

Self-control involves consulting the Holy Spirit before I speak or act.

Números 6:5 (1-27) “Durante todos los días del voto de su nazareato no pasará navaja sobre su cabeza.”

¿Hiciste un voto, mantuviste un voto?

En algún momento de la vida de Sansón, Samuel, Juan el Bautista y Pablo, cada uno de ellos hizo un voto nazareo. Cada uno habría sido bien notado porque todos tendrían el pelo largo y probablemente una barba larga. También habrían sido muy particulares sobre la compañía que mantenían y la comida que comen. Supongo que estos votos tenían la intención de ser serios y breves.

Creo que es importante que entendamos que cuando esta persona hizo su voto nazareo, no veía las restricciones como una limitación de sus libertades personales, sino como una forma de permitirle centrar su atención en el propósito del voto. Ese voto probablemente fue una tarea que Dios les había asignado.

Hoy vivimos en una cultura donde mis derechos o lo que creo que son mis derechos son más importantes que mis necesidades espirituales. Un voto nazareo sería impensable. Pero nuevamente, el propósito de cualquier voto es enfocar su energía y atención en cumplir con un compromiso hecho, como el matrimonio, y cualquier cosa que se interponga en el camino debe dejarse de lado.

El control propio involucra consultando al Espíritu Santo antes de hablar o actuar.

Numbers 5:4 (1-31) “The sons of Israel did so and sent them outside the camp;”

How committed are you?

In this chapter God gives the people two tasks to tests their commitment to God.

The first task was to separate out those who were considered unclean, those who were infected with something, and they did that. This showed God their willingness to put off what is impure in God’s eyes, Ephesians 4:22-24.

The second task was a test of marital purity. Marriage is a picture of putting off yourself and becoming the person your spouse needs. In Genesis 2:24 God said the two will become one flesh (remember Eve came out of Adam). That means something new. This test of marital purity was done if a husband suspected his wife of infidelity then she had to drink dirty water from the floor of the sacrifice. If she was guilty she got sick, if not she was free to go.

The real test would be later in real life.

Responsibility involves learning to establish personal disciplines to help you become the person God needs you to be, Ephesians 2:10.

Números 5:4 (1-31) “Y así lo hicieron los hijos de Israel, y los echaron fuera del campamento;”

¿Qué tan comprometido estás?

En este capítulo, Dios le da a la gente dos tareas para poner a prueba su compromiso con Dios.

La primera tarea fue separar a los que se consideraban inmundos, a los que estaban infectados con algo, y lo hicieron. Esto le mostró a Dios su disposición a deshacerse de lo que es impuro a los ojos de Dios, Efesios 4:22-24.

La segunda tarea fue una prueba de pureza marital. El matrimonio es una imagen de dejar atrás lo viejo y convertirse en la persona que su cónyuge necesita. En Génesis 2:24 Dios dijo que los dos se convertirán en una sola carne (recuerde que Eva salió de Adán). Eso significa algo nuevo. Esta prueba de pureza marital se hacía si un esposo sospechaba que su esposa era infiel, entonces ella tenía que beber agua sucia del piso del sacrificio. Si era culpable, se enfermaba, si no, era libre de irse.

La verdadera prueba sería más tarde en la vida real.

Responsabilidad involucra aprender a establecer disciplinas personales para ayudarnos alcanzar a ser la persona que Dios necesita que seamos, Efesios 2:10.

Numbers 4:49 (1-49) “they were numbered, everyone by his service or carrying;”

Do you know your part?

It seems like the purpose of numbering the tribes (taking a census) was so that everyone would have a sense of purpose in relation to each other. I mean every man knew that he was responsible for the protection of his people, not just his tribe or immediate family. And, in the case of the Levite, they now knew that they would be protected while they busied themselves in the care of the Tabernacle.

There was a person for every job and a job for every person. Numbers are very important in scripture from Genesis to the Revelation. Important enough for us to understand that in the very last days (after the church is gone) the question of numbers will become even more important for those who live at that time. In Revelation 6:10-11 the suffering saints were told that they would continue suffering and being murdered until their number had been fulfilled.

The church also has a number which is mentioned in, Romans 11:25. But more important than that is the fact that each of us have a part in God’s redemption plan for mankind, Ephesians 2:10. And just like the Levites we need to start our training as soon as possible so we can be as effective as possible, Ephesians 4:12.

Diligence involves focusing on the job the Holy Spirit has given us and getting it done.

Números 4:49 (1-49) “cada uno según su ministerio o según su cargo;”

¿Conoces tu parte?

Parece que el propósito de enumerar las tribus (hacer un censo) era para que todos tuvieran un sentido de propósito en relación con los demás. Quiero decir que todo hombre sabía que era responsable de la protección de su pueblo, no solo de su tribu o de su familia inmediata. Y, en el caso de los levitas, ahora sabían que estarían protegidos mientras se ocupaban del cuidado del Tabernáculo.

Había una persona para cada trabajo y un trabajo para cada persona. Los números son muy importantes en las escrituras desde Génesis hasta Apocalipsis. Lo suficientemente importante como para que entendamos que en los últimos días (después de que la iglesia se haya ido) la cuestión de los números se convertirá aún más importante para aquellos que vivan en ese momento. En Apocalipsis 6:10-11 se les dijo a los santos que sufrían que continuarían sufriendo y siendo asesinados hasta que se cumpliera su número.

La iglesia también tiene un número que se menciona en Romanos 11:25. Pero más importante que eso es el hecho de que cada uno de nosotros tiene una parte en el plan de redención de Dios para la humanidad, Efesios 2:10. Y al igual que los levitas, debemos comenzar nuestro entrenamiento lo mas pronto posible para que podamos ser lo más efectivos posible, Efesios 4:12.

Diligencia involucra enfocándome en el trabajo que el Espíritu Santo me ha dado y cumpliendo con el.

Numbers 3:13 (1-51) “For all the firstborn are Mine;”

How many of you are firstborn?

If you remember, the last plague on the Egyptians was that the Lord took their firstborn. On that day He also sanctified (set apart for special service) every firstborn of the Israelites as well. This included animals and crops. At some point in time God was going to call all the firstborn into His service. They would have to leave their families and become dedicated to whatever God had in store for them.

Because of circumstances in the past Levi had fallen out of God’s favor loosing it’s future inheritance. When Israel sinned by worshipping the Golden Calf, it was Levi who volunteered to do the dirty work of cleaning the mess. Because they were the only volunteers God decided to take them instead of the firstborn. I’ve been to a few men’s conferences where the speaker has asked the firstborns to stand and it is always amazing to see how many, it is overwhelming.

Today the church has no tabernacle or temple. We have no special cups or plates to carry or wash and keep clean. That’s because the temple God stays in now is our own bodies, 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. And, just like the priests of old, we are to maintain these bodies so that the Lord our God can use them to bring in the next person He has planned to save for Himself. Wherever we find ourselves or place ourselves we are completely dedicated to God, to do His will and not our own, because we are His royal priesthood, 1 Peter 2:9.

Diligence involves focusing on the job the Holy Spirit has given us and getting it done.

Números 3:13 (1-51) “Porque mío es todo primogénito;”

¿Cuántos de ustedes son primogénitos?

Si recuerdas, la última plaga de los egipcios fue que el Señor se llevó a su primogénito. En ese día también santificó (apartó para un servicio especial) a cada primogénito de los israelitas. Esto incluyó animales y cultivos. En algún momento, Dios iba a llamar a todos los primogénitos a su servicio. Tendrían que dejar a sus familias y dedicarse a todo lo que Dios tenía reservado para ellos.

Debido a circunstancias en el pasado, Levi había perdido el favor de Dios y había perdido su herencia futura. Cuando Israel pecó al adorar al becerro de oro, fue Levi quien se ofreció como voluntario para hacer el trabajo sucio de limpiar el desorden. Debido a que eran los únicos voluntarios, Dios decidió tomarlos en lugar del primogénito. He estado en algunas conferencias de hombres en las que el orador les ha pedido a los primogénitos que se pongan de pie y siempre es sorprendente ver cuántos, es increíble.

Hoy la iglesia no tiene tabernáculo ni templo. No tenemos tazas o platos especiales para llevar o lavar y mantener limpios. Eso es porque el templo en el que Dios permanece ahora son nuestros propios cuerpos, 1 Corintios 3:16-17. Y, al igual que los sacerdotes de antaño, debemos mantener estos cuerpos para que el Señor nuestro Dios pueda usarlos para traer a la próxima persona que ha planeado salvar para sí mismo. Dondequiera que nos encontremos o nos coloquemos, estamos completamente dedicados a Dios, a hacer Su voluntad y no la nuestra, porque somos Su real sacerdocio, 1 Pedro 2:9.

Diligencia involucra enfocándome en el trabajo que el Espíritu Santo me ha dado y cumpliendo con el.

Numbers 2:2 (1-34) “they shall camp around the tent of meeting at a distance.

Who is at the center of your life?

Each tribe was assigned a position to take when they were at camp and when they proceeded to march. In the center of the camp was the Tabernacle. This order of marching would re-enforce the idea of God being the center of their lives. At the same time each tribe had a place or order in the march towards whatever goal or place they were headed, each playing an important part in the security of the Tabernacle.

For a lot of people knowing their place in the family or in society is all they need to give them a sense of meaning and purpose for their lives. Living that way in their own little world ignoring everything and everyone else. The problem is that we make our place in the family or in society the center of our lives. For Israel the picture was as plane as day. The center of their lives was to be God, represented by the Tabernacle.

Whether they were walking or camping, God would always be at the center of their lives. The same is still true for us as members of a local congregation (Exodus 20:3), God is at the center of our lives, whether we are in action or at rest.

Orderliness involves using the distractions of life to help you get your priorities straight.

Números 2:2 (1-34) “acamparán alrededor de la tienda de reunión, a cierta distancia.”

¿Quién está en el centro de tu vida?

A cada tribu se le asignó una posición para tomar cuando estaban en el campamento y cuando procedían a marchar. En el centro del campamento estaba el Tabernáculo. Este orden de marcha reforzaría la idea de que Dios es el centro de sus vidas. Al mismo tiempo, cada tribu tenía un lugar u orden en la marcha hacia cualquier objetivo o lugar al que se dirigieran, cada uno jugando un papel importante en la seguridad del Tabernáculo.

Para muchas personas, saber cuál es su lugar en la familia o en la sociedad es todo lo que necesitan para darles un sentido y un propósito a sus vidas. Viviendo de esa manera en su propio pequeño mundo ignorando todo y a todos los demás. El problema es que hacemos de nuestro lugar en la familia o en la sociedad el centro de nuestras vidas. Para Israel, la imagen era tan plana como el día. El centro de sus vidas sería Dios, representado por el Tabernáculo.

Ya sea que estuvieran caminando o de campamento, Dios siempre estaría en el centro de sus vidas. Lo mismo es cierto para nosotros como miembros de una congregación local, Dios está en el centro de nuestras vidas (Éxodo 20:3), ya sea que estemos en acción o en reposo.

El orden implica el uso de las distracciones de la vida para ayudarle a mantener sus prioridades rectas.
