1 Samuel 12:6 (1-25) “Then Samuel said to the people, It is the Lord who appointed Moses and Aaron and who brought your fathers up from the land of Egypt.”
What is you job?
I found it interesting that, in reminding the people of their responsibilities to God, Samuel now emphasizes that both Moses and Aaron were appointed by God to serve Israel. It is true, but usually, throughout scripture Aaron is rarely mentioned.
Why does Samuel then mention Aaron, probably because until this time the people saw the judge as both military and spiritual leader over the people. They had failed to see that God was there leader and the judges were merely representatives of God, 12:19.
So now Samuel pointed out that what Israel had asked for was a military leader. But he wanted them not to forget their spiritual need, 12:23. And there is the comparison; Moses and Aaron; Saul and Samuel. But to be successful, as Moses and Aaron, Saul and Samuel had to be faithful.
So we need to remain aware of our relationship to God, each other and our responsibilities, 12:24.
Attentiveness involves looking, listening and learning the commands of God, the will of God and the way of God.
