Zephaniah 2:10 (1-15) “because they have taunted and become arrogant against the people of the Lord of hosts.”

In whose image were you created?

It is our natural instinct to make fun of those who made fun of those who have fallen on hard times saying it could never happen to you. Such was the case for Israel in that it was the victim of those taunts that asked, where is your God now, Micah 7:10? See Israel had become very proud of how far it had come but had forgotten by what power they had gotten there. They looked at other nations and made fun of them not thinking that failure could happen to them. Now the tables had turned, and those nations were making fun of Israel.

It is not our natural instinct to help someone in trouble we have to be taught to do it. I mean whenever we see someone in trouble, even if it is due him or her, what should be our correct response? James tells us that true religion involves taking care of those who have fallen on hard times and to keep from worldly influences, James 1:27.

Although we don’t seem to instinctually want to care the fact that God wants us to, indicates that we were originally designed to care. I know this because in Genesis 1:26 we are told that God made us in His own image, not ours.

Wisdom involves apply basic principles in every situation we’re confronted with.

Sofonías 2:10 (1-15) “porque han afrentado y se han engrandecido sobre el pueblo del Señor de los ejércitos.”

¿A imagen y semejanza de quién fuiste creado?

Es nuestro instinto natural burlarnos de aquellos que se burlaron de aquellos que han caído en tiempos difíciles diciendo que nunca podría pasarte a ti. Tal fue el caso de Israel en el sentido de que fue víctima de esas burlas que le preguntaron: ¿Dónde está tu Dios ahora, Miqueas 7:10? Israel se había enorgullecido mucho de lo lejos que había llegado, pero había olvidado por qué poder habían llegado allí. Miraban a otras naciones y se burlaban de ellas sin pensar que el fracaso les podía suceder. Ahora las tornas habían cambiado, y esas naciones se estaban burlando de Israel.

No es nuestro instinto natural ayudar a alguien en problemas, tenemos que aprender a hacerlo. Quiero decir, cada vez que vemos a alguien en problemas, incluso si se lo merecen, ¿cuál debería ser nuestra respuesta correcta? Santiago nos dice que la verdadera religión implica cuidar de aquellos que han caído en tiempos difíciles y mantenerse alejados de las influencias mundanas, Santiago 1:27.

Aunque no parezca que instintivamente queramos preocuparnos, el hecho de que Dios quiera que lo hagamos, indica que originalmente fuimos diseñados para preocuparnos. Lo sé porque en Génesis 1:26 se nos dice que Dios nos hizo a Su propia imagen, no a la nuestra.

Sabiduría involucra aplicar los principios básicos de la vida en cada situación a la que nos enfrentamos.

Zephaniah 1:5 (1-19) “and those who bow down and swear to the Lord and yet swear by Milcom,”

Which way do you follow?

Do you know what syncretism means? It is an attempt to please everyone and be at peace with everyone by abandoning what you know to be true. That way you will be left alone to pursue your own desire. It is an impossible position to take because in it everybody is right, and no one is wrong unless you disagree with the idea that everyone is right. Let’s see if I can explain it in another way. Suppose you are driving along, and you get to an intersection and the light is red for you, what are you supposed to do? Everyone in the world has come to agree that a red light at an intersection means stop, the green means go, and the yellow means watch out.

Imagine what would happen if the lights meant something different to everyone. In that case although everyone would be right in their own eyes; everyone would also be in an accident at the same time. Imagine!

I know this sounds ridiculous, but it is exactly what was happening in Israel and is happening today in the world. In the name of being inclusive (leaving no one out) we have had to tell people who know what is right and what is wrong that they can’t tell anyone they are wrong.

Jesus said we couldn’t serve two masters. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other”, Matthew 6:24. If you try, you’ll find yourself in a spiritual accident that will leave you in critical condition. There is a right and wrong, Jesus, who is God makes that decision not us.

Wisdom involves discovering philosophies of hopelessness and rejecting them.

Sofonías 1:5 (1-19) “a los que se postran y juran por el Señor y juran también por Milcom,”

¿Qué camino sigues?

¿Sabes lo que significa el sincretismo? Es un intento de complacer a todos y estar en paz con todos abandonando lo que sabes que es verdad. De esa manera, te quedarás solo para perseguir tu propio deseo. Es una posición imposible de tomar porque en ella todo el mundo tiene razón, y nadie está equivocado a menos que no estés de acuerdo con la idea de que todo el mundo tiene razón. A ver si puedo explicarlo de otra manera. Supongamos que estás conduciendo y llegas a una intersección y el semáforo está en rojo para ti, ¿qué se supone que debes hacer? Todo el mundo ha llegado a estar de acuerdo en que un semáforo en rojo en una intersección significa detenerse, el verde significa ir y el amarillo significa tener cuidado.

Imagínese lo que pasaría si las luces significaran algo diferente para todos. En ese caso, aunque cada uno tendría razón a sus propios ojos; Todo el mundo también tendría un accidente al mismo tiempo. ¡Imaginad!

Sé que esto suena ridículo, pero es exactamente lo que estaba sucediendo en Israel y está sucediendo hoy en el mundo. En nombre de ser inclusivos (no dejar a nadie fuera) hemos tenido que decirles a las personas que saben lo que está bien y lo que está mal que no pueden decirle a nadie que están equivocados.

Jesús dijo que no podíamos servir a dos señores. “Nadie puede servir a dos señores; porque o aborrecerá al uno y amará al otro, o se dedicará a uno y despreciará al otro”, Mateo 6:24. Si lo intentas, te encontrarás en un accidente espiritual que te dejará en estado crítico. Hay un bien y un mal, Jesús, que es Dios toma esa decisión, no nosotros.

Sabiduría involucra descubriendo filosofías sin esperanza y rechazarlas.

Nahum 3:19 (1-19) “All who hear about you will clap their hands over you,”

Of what are you aware?

The only time you will hear clapping at a funeral is when the speaker is commenting on how wonderful the deceased was. Yet, when the city of Nineveh was destroyed, along with its empire, the whole world clapped for joy because the horrible things they did would now stop. Nineveh had become known for its cruelty. It seemed comfortable for them to chop people up and then pile up the bodies and their parts for all to see. But with its judgment it would end up stumbling over its own bodies.

One wonders how, how did a people who had heard the word of God and accepted it come to be so cruel with such a dishonorable death? Well, it didn’t happen overnight, and it didn’t take very long. As each succeeding generation passed, they failed to teach their own to know God. Because of this failure each generation taught less and less about God until they had lost Him completely. The gap of the knowledge of God was filled with the knowledge of false gods. In this way whatever they had thought they would never do again they did.

This might sound familiar to some of you. It is what has been happening in the U.S. for the last couple of generations. When founded this country accepted the Bible as the word of God and the only rule of moral law. The Bible was taught as fact in every school. But within the last 60 years all that has been almost completely erased from our school systems. God’s patience always has its limit, 1:3.

Attentiveness involves paying attention to the promptings of your own conscience and the Holy Spirit to discover God’s will and ways.

Nahúm 3:19 (1-19) “Todos los que oigan noticias de ti batirán palmas sobre ti,”

¿De qué eres consciente?

La única vez que se oyen aplausos en un funeral es cuando el orador comenta lo maravilloso que era el difunto. Sin embargo, cuando la ciudad de Nínive fue destruida, junto con su imperio, el mundo entero aplaudió de alegría porque las cosas horribles que hicieron ahora se detendrían. Nínive se había hecho conocida por su crueldad. Parecía cómodo para ellos descuartizar a la gente y luego amontonar los cuerpos y sus partes para que todos los vieran. Pero con su juicio terminaría tropezando con sus propios cuerpos.

Uno se pregunta cómo, ¿cómo un pueblo que había escuchado la palabra de Dios y la había aceptado llegó a ser tan cruel con una muerte tan deshonrosa? Bueno, no sucedió de la noche a la mañana, y no tomó mucho tiempo. A medida que pasaban las generaciones sucesivas, no enseñaban a los suyos a conocer a Dios. Debido a este fracaso, cada generación enseñó cada vez menos acerca de Dios hasta que lo perdieron por completo. El vacío del conocimiento de Dios fue llenado con el conocimiento de dioses falsos. De esta manera, todo lo que habían pensado que nunca volverían a hacer, lo hicieron.

Esto puede sonar familiar para algunos de ustedes. Es lo que ha estado sucediendo en los Estados Unidos durante las últimas dos generaciones. Cuando se fundó, este país aceptó la Biblia como la palabra de Dios y la única regla de la ley moral. La Biblia se enseñaba como realidad en todas las escuelas. Pero en los últimos 60 años todo eso ha sido borrado casi por completo de nuestros sistemas escolares. La paciencia de Dios siempre tiene su límite, 1:3.

Atento involucra prestar atención a los impulsos de tu propia conciencia y del Espíritu Santo para descubrir la voluntad y los caminos de Dios.

Nahum 2:13 (1-13) “Behold, I am against you, declares the Lord of hosts.”

Are you holy?

Anger is not one of the attributes of God. Anger is an emotional response to a given situation. An attribute describes something of the essential nature of a person. Yesterday we saw that God is slow to anger or longsuffering, meaning He gets upset but doesn’t act on it right away. Today I want you to see another attribute of God and that is His holiness.

God was not against the people of Nineveh because He was angry with them. He was against them because they had become unholy again. Instead of being an instrument of God for good they had returned to evil.

In like manner, we as followers of God need to be separated from that which is evil. God is willing to help us to separate ourselves as far as that is possible for us, but we must be willing. For those who decide to follow God, your decision means you have rejected the ways of the world for God’s ways. We can’t serve two masters, either we will love the one and hate the other or we will hate the one and love the other, Matthew 6:24. Holiness is not an easy road for us and that is why we need His help.

Virtue involves allowing the Holy Spirit to remake us in the character of Christ.

Nahúm 2:13 (1-13) “Heme aquí contra ti —declara el Señor de los ejércitos.”

¿Eres santo?

La ira no es uno de los atributos de Dios. La ira es una respuesta emocional a una situación determinada. Un atributo describe algo de la naturaleza esencial de una persona. Ayer vimos que Dios es lento para la ira o la longanimidad, lo que significa que se enoja, pero no actúa de inmediato. Hoy quiero que veas otro atributo de Dios y es Su santidad.

Dios no estaba en contra de la gente de Nínive porque estaba enojado con ellos. Él estaba en contra de ellos porque se habían vuelto impíos de nuevo. En lugar de ser un instrumento de Dios para el bien, habían vuelto al mal.

De la misma manera, nosotros, como seguidores de Dios, necesitamos estar separados de lo que es malo. Dios está dispuesto a ayudarnos a separarnos en la medida de lo posible, pero debemos estar dispuestos. Para aquellos que deciden seguir a Dios, su decisión significa que han rechazado los caminos del mundo por los caminos de Dios. No podemos servir a dos señores, o amamos a uno y odiamos al otro, u odiamos a uno y amamos al otro, Mateo 6:24. La santidad no es un camino fácil para nosotros y es por eso por lo que necesitamos Su ayuda.

Virtud implica permitiendo al Espíritu Santo rehacernos en el carácter de Cristo.

Nahum 1:3 (1-15) “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,”

Do you remember?

The prophet Nahum came out of the northern tribe’s area of the land of Israel, up near the Sea of Galilee. He spoke this message sometime after Hezekiah’s death. Remember that Sennacherib had returned home to Nineveh because of some trouble with his sons. Following him home came the news of the slaughter of all his 185,000 troops. God, it seemed had become very angry with the Assyrians for two reasons. First because they knew better and second because they had attacked His representatives, Israel.

Nineveh was the city that Jonah didn’t want to visit because he knew that God was going to perform a miracle in that land. When he preached, they repented of their evil and followed Jonah’s God. Jonah felt that those Ninevites didn’t deserve to be saved and that even if some believed it wouldn’t stick for very long. That first and second generation of believers proved Jonah wrong, but the following generations proved Jonah right.

That took about a hundred years. Among all the attributes of God, probably the one most important to all of us is that God is slow to anger. Slow to anger means that He will give you enough time to realize your error before He punishes you, unlike Jonah. As Israel knew God’s way and was suffering for rejecting it, so too now the Assyrians had known Gods ways and that they were good and had rejected them. God gave them time to come back to Him. God’s anger is slow, but it is also sure.

Loyalty involves not just remembering who my God is but helping others to remember as well.

Nahúm 1:3 (1-15) “El Señor es lento para la ira y grande en poder,”

¿Te acuerdas?

El profeta Nahúm salió de la zona de la tribu septentrional de la tierra de Israel, cerca del mar de Galilea. Presentó este mensaje algún tiempo después de la muerte de Ezequías. Recuerde que Senaquerib había regresado a su hogar en Nínive debido a algunos problemas con sus hijos. Siguiéndole a casa llegó la noticia de la matanza de sus 185.000 soldados. Al parecer, Dios se había enojado mucho con los asirios por dos razones. Primero porque sabían más y segundo porque habían atacado a Sus representantes, Israel.

Nínive era la ciudad que Jonás no quería visitar porque sabía que Dios iba a hacer un milagro en esa tierra. Cuando predicó, se arrepintieron de su maldad y siguieron al Dios de Jonás. Jonás sintió que esos ninivitas no merecían ser salvados y que, aunque algunos creyeran que no se mantendría por mucho tiempo. Esa primera y segunda generación de creyentes demostraron que Jonás estaba equivocado, pero las generaciones siguientes demostraron que Jonás tenía razón.

Eso tomó alrededor de cien años. Entre todos los atributos de Dios, probablemente el más importante para todos nosotros es que Dios es lento para la ira. Lento para la ira significa que Él te dará suficiente tiempo para darte cuenta de tu error antes de castigarte, a diferencia de Jonás. Así como Israel conocía el camino de Dios y sufría por rechazarlo, así también ahora los asirios habían conocido los caminos de Dios y que eran buenos y los habían rechazado. Dios les dio tiempo para volver a Él. La ira de Dios es lenta, pero también es segura.

Lealtad implica no solo recordar quién es mi Dios, sino ayudar a otros a recordar también.

Micah 7:18 (11-20) “Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious acts of the remnant of His possession?”

How do you see Israel?

God promised Israel that He would restore her sometime in the future. There will come a time when all the land that was promised will be in Israel’s possession, from the Mediterranean to the Euphrates River. Israel will become the breadbasket of the world and must come there to meet their own needs. People from all over the globe will come to see what God has done for His people. But the greatest promise fulfilled that the people of the world will come to see, with mouths wide open in shock, is the fact that He has forgiven them, 7:18.

Of all the gods that man has ever invented none is like Our Lord. He is not just the Creator. He is not just an avenger. He is not just the provider, protector or director; He is the forgiver.

I thought it interesting that of all the things man could stand in awe concerning God, it was not about His great power or glory. What makes God so glorious and powerful is that He is so forgiving. He is not limited to vengeance or even to justice; He is merciful and purposeful. All the things that happened to Israel, like all the things that have and are happening to the Church, even today, God has intended with a purpose.

Forgiveness involves learning to see how the pains others have caused me God has allowed to help me grow or remind me of a lesson forgotten.

Miqueas 7:18 (11-20) “¿Qué Dios hay como tú, que perdona la iniquidad y pasa por alto la rebeldía del remanente de su heredad?”

¿Cómo ves a Israel?

Dios le prometió a Israel que Él la restauraría en algún momento en el futuro. Llegará un momento en que toda la tierra prometida estará en posesión de Israel, desde el Mediterráneo hasta el río Éufrates. Israel se convertirá en el granero del mundo y debe venir allí para satisfacer sus propias necesidades. Personas de todo el mundo vendrán a ver lo que Dios ha hecho por Su pueblo. Pero la promesa más grande cumplida que la gente del mundo vendrá a ver, con la boca abierta en estado de shock, es el hecho de que Él los ha perdonado, 7:18.

De todos los dioses que el hombre ha inventado, ninguno es como Nuestro Señor. Él no es solo el Creador. No es solo un vengador. No es solo el proveedor, protector o director; Él es el perdonador.

Pensé que era interesante que de todas las cosas que el hombre podía sentir temor con respecto a Dios, no se trataba de Su gran poder o gloria. Lo que hace que Dios sea tan glorioso y poderoso es que es tan indulgente. No se limita a la venganza, ni siquiera a la justicia; Él es misericordioso y decidido. Todas las cosas que le sucedieron a Israel, como todas las cosas que le han sucedido y le están sucediendo a la Iglesia, incluso hoy, Dios las ha intentado con un propósito.

El perdón implica aprender a ver cómo los dolores que otros me han causado Dios ha permitido que me ayuden a crecer o que me recuerden una lección olvidada.

Micah 7:2 (1-10) “Each of them hunts the other with a net.”

What path are you walking?

Micah tells us that the situation had gotten so bad in Israel that it was impossible to trust anyone. He says that all the godly had died and there were no upright people around. A godly person is one that reflects the character of God, and an upright person is one who has nothing to hide, so he can stand up. But instead, he describes everyone as skulking around looking for ways to steal from their neighbor or anyone else, 7:2. Israel’s leadership was no better refusing to do their jobs unless they were bribed, 7:3.

You can’t get close to a thorn hedge and in those days, you couldn’t get close to anyone, because there was no trust, 7:4-5. You couldn’t even trust your own family members, 7:6.

It is possible to get out of that kind of life and it will cost you to do it, but it is well worth it. All you have to do is establish a relationship with the only one Israel and you can ever trust, God, 7:7. He can teach you how to walk in the way you were originally designed to walk, 7:8. It will hurt a little at first, but after a while you won’t be able to stop and even God will have to slow you down, 7:9. You will then discover that you are not alone; there are many of us walking the path to godliness and will welcome another fellow traveler.

Courage involves our willingness to live out the principles of scripture regardless of the opposition we will face.

Miqueas 7:2 (1-10) “Todos acechan para derramar sangre, unos a otros se echan la red.”

¿Qué camino estás caminando?

Miqueas nos dice que la situación se había puesto tan mal en Israel que era imposible confiar en nadie. Dice que todos los piadosos habían muerto y que no había gente recta alrededor. Una persona piadosa es aquella que refleja el carácter de Dios, y una persona recta es aquella que no tiene nada que esconder para poder mantenerse en pie. Pero en lugar de eso, describe a todos como merodeando, buscando formas de robar a su vecino o a cualquier otra persona, 7:2. El liderazgo de Israel no estaba mejor negándose a hacer su trabajo a menos que fueran sobornados, 7:3.

No puedes acercarte a un seto de espinos y en aquellos días, no podías acercarte a nadie, porque no había confianza, 7:4-5. Ni siquiera podías confiar en los miembros de tu propia familia, 7:6.

Es posible salir de ese tipo de vida y te costará hacerlo, pero vale la pena. Todo lo que tienes que hacer es establecer una relación con el único tu o Israel puedes confiar, Dios, 7:7. Él puede enseñarte cómo caminar de la manera en que fuiste diseñado originalmente para caminar, 7:8. Te dolerá un poco al principio, pero después de un tiempo no podrás detenerte e incluso Dios tendrá que frenarte, 7:9. Entonces descubrirás que no estás solo; Somos muchos los que caminamos por el camino de la piedad y le daremos la bienvenida a otro compañero de viaje.

Valentía involucra nuestro deseo de vivir los principios de las Escrituras sin importar la oposición que enfrentaremos.

Micah 6:6 (1-16) “With what shall I come to the Lord …”

Where have you placed God?

We live in a world that has gotten into the habit of not even looking at the person behind the counter as we pay for what we just bought. We don’t want to engage in needless conversation because we are in such a hurry. We don’t even call on the phone, we text or tweet.

We tend to treat God in the same way. We spend no time thinking about what we are doing when we write out the tithe check, only that God better pay us back (with some sort of blessing) and He better be quick about it.

What is it that God had always wanted from Israel, what is it that God wants from us? God has never hidden His desire for us. As early as the book of Deuteronomy (10:12-13) He expressed what His expectations were. Before the fall of man in the garden He had what He wanted (Genesis 3:8-10).

But here, Micah explains what many of us have already known. God doesn’t want from us anything that we have. He wants us. He wants a relationship that shows our interest in doing what is right instead of getting away with what is good enough, 6:8. He wants that relationship to be seen in the way we treat each other, 6:8. And, He wants that relationship to be felt deep inside as we gratefully bow before the One who has created each of us, 6:8.

Obedience involves learning to be the people God always intended us to be.

Miqueas 6:6 (1-16) “¿Con qué me presentaré al Señor…”

¿Dónde has colocado a Dios?

Vivimos en un mundo que se ha acostumbrado a ni siquiera mirar a la persona detrás de la ventanilla mientras pagamos por lo que acabamos de comprar. No queremos tener conversaciones innecesarias porque tenemos mucha prisa. Ni siquiera llamamos por teléfono, enviamos mensajes de texto o WhatsApp.

Tendemos a tratar a Dios de la misma manera. No pasamos tiempo pensando en lo que estamos haciendo cuando escribimos el cheque del diezmo, solo que es mejor que Dios nos pague (con algún tipo de bendición) y que sea rápido al respecto.

¿Qué es lo que Dios siempre ha querido de Israel, qué es lo que Dios quiere de nosotros? Dios nunca ha ocultado su deseo por nosotros. Ya en el libro de Deuteronomio (10:12-13) expresó cuáles eran sus expectativas. Antes de la caída del hombre en el jardín, Él tenía lo que quería (Génesis 3:8-10).

Pero aquí, Miqueas explica lo que muchos de nosotros ya sabíamos. Dios no quiere de nosotros nada de lo que tenemos. Él quiere a nosotros. Él quiere una relación que muestre nuestro interés en hacer lo que es correcto en lugar de salirnos con la nuestra con lo que es lo suficientemente bueno, 6:8. Él quiere que esa relación se vea en la forma en que nos tratamos unos a otros, 6:8. Y Él quiere que esa relación se sienta en lo más profundo de nuestro ser mientras nos inclinamos agradecidos ante Aquel que nos ha creado a cada uno de nosotros, 6:8.

Obediencia implica aprender a ser el pueblo que Dios siempre quiso que fuéramos.

Micah 5:2 (1-15) “from you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.”

In whom do you trust?

One day Israel will see that promised leader, the Messiah. About that man Micah says, “His goings forth are from long ago”. This means that before Messiah was born (5:2-3) He was and is active in world affairs. He may very well have sat to eat with Abraham, Genesis 18. This man would be sent by God to do work for God (as the angel of God). He will not represent His own interests. As a matter of fact, His interests will be only His Fathers (John 6:38; Matthew 26:39, 43). This man is clearly no ordinary man.

That man was and is Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God whom God has sent into the world to lead. Paul tells us that at the appointed time “every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on the earth and under the earth” when they hear the name of Jesus (Philippians 2:10).

And so, the question for each of us is, will you be one of “His flock” (5:4)? Here is how you can be sure of being one, read and accept the words of John 3:16 as your own.

Faith begins with understanding the need for salvation and ends accepting the only one who can grant it. Once that is done, we can then add to our faith and join His team, 2 Peter 1.

Miqueas 5:2 (1-15) “de ti me saldrá el que ha de ser gobernante en Israel.”

¿En quién confías?

Un día Israel verá a ese líder prometido, el Mesías. De ese hombre Miqueas dice: “Y sus orígenesson desde tiempos antiguos”. Esto significa que antes de que el Mesías naciera (5:2-3) Él estaba y está activo en los asuntos mundiales. Es muy posible que se haya sentado a comer con Abraham, Génesis 18. Este hombre sería enviado por Dios para hacer trabajo para Dios (como el ángel de Dios). Él no representará sus propios intereses. De hecho, Sus intereses serán solo los de Su Padre (Juan 6:38; Mateo 26:39, 43). Está claro que este hombre no es un hombre cualquiera.

Ese hombre era y es Jesús. Jesús es el Hijo de Dios a quien Dios ha enviado al mundo para guiar. Pablo nos dice que en el tiempo señalado “toda rodilla de los que están en el cielo, y en la tierra, y debajo de la tierra” se doblará cuando oigan el nombre de Jesús (Filipenses 2:10).

Y entonces, la pregunta para cada uno de nosotros es, ¿serás uno de “su rebaño” (5:4)? Así es como puedes estar seguro de serlo, lee y acepta las palabras de Juan 3:16 personalmente.

Fe comienza con la comprensión de la necesidad de la salvación y termina aceptando al único que puede concederla. Una vez hecho esto, podemos aumentar nuestra fe y unirnos a Su equipo, 2 Pedro 1.

Micah 4:1 (1-13) “And it will come about in the last days that the mountain of the house of the Lord will be established as the chief of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills, and the peoples will stream to it.”

Do you have any plans?

When Judy and I go on vacation we spend some time planning out what we are going to do, whom we would visit and when it would all happen. As the days grow closer to our departure it feels good to know that in a few days we would be away from all the distractions here at home for some much-needed rest. We have planned activities, but just knowing that there would be no deadlines, no pressures to worry about is a comfort.

There were many distractions in the land of Israel. For the poor the constant struggle to survive both the oppression from their own kind and that of the Assyrians must have been all consuming. The rich were in a constant state of the fear of losing everything they thought they deserved. The religious class was busy looking for justification for ignoring the Law of God and His prophets. There was no time to plan for a vacation; it was enough just trying to survive. 

Just as Israel needed to know and remember that God has a plan for them as a nation and as individuals, we (the church) need to know and remember. Everything will work out just as God has planned and in favor of His chosen ones. Even today He is preparing the way for the fulfillment of that plan, 4:6. It is a comfort to all of us to remember that God is in control and will one day take us to that peaceful rest were there will be plenty to do with not a deadline in sight.

Endurance involves staying focused on our God given objectives despite all the distractions Satan will through our way.

Miqueas 4:1 (1-13) “Y sucederá en los últimos días que el monte de la casa del Señor será establecido como cabezade los montes; se elevará sobre las colinas, y afluirán a él los pueblos.”

¿Tienes algún plan?

Cuando Judy y yo nos vamos de vacaciones, pasamos un tiempo planeando lo que vamos a hacer, a quién visitaríamos y cuándo sucedería todo. A medida que se acercan los días a nuestra partida, se siente bien saber que en unos días estaríamos lejos de todas las distracciones aquí en casa para descansar un poco. Hemos planificado actividades, pero el solo hecho de saber que no habrá plazos, ni presiones de las que preocuparse, es un consuelo.

Había muchas distracciones en la tierra de Israel. Para los pobres, la lucha constante por sobrevivir tanto a la opresión de su propia especie como a la de los asirios debe haber consumido todo. Los ricos estaban en un estado constante de miedo a perder todo lo que creían merecer. La clase religiosa estaba ocupada buscando justificación para ignorar la Ley de Dios y Sus profetas. No había tiempo para planear unas vacaciones; Bastaba con tratar de sobrevivir. 

Así como Israel necesitaba saber y recordar que Dios tiene un plan para ellos como nación y como individuos, nosotros (la iglesia) necesitamos saber y recordar. Todo saldrá tal como Dios lo ha planeado y a favor de Sus elegidos. Incluso hoy Él está preparando el camino para el cumplimiento de ese plan, 4:6. Es un consuelo para todos nosotros recordar que Dios está en control y que un día nos llevará a ese descanso pacífico en el que habrá mucho que hacer sin una fecha límite a la vista.

Perdurar involucra manteniendo mi enfoque en las metas que Dios me ha dado no obstante las distracciones que Satanás va usar.
