Acts 12:12 (1-19) “And when he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was also called Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.”
Last night at Bible study in church we were talking about the value of prayer in light of the doctrine of the Sovereignty of God, Romans 9:16. Many people run to one extreme or another thinking that if God controls all then I don’t have to do anything. But what then of God’s commands?
Some run to the other extreme and think that God really doesn’t have control and if I don’t pray enough or in a certain way God won’t hear me, making it will be my fault when nothing happens. This is prayer by worry and fear. Worry and fear produce all kinds of physical as well as psychological and spiritual problems.
But, here we see that although some didn’t expect there to be any hope of Peter being saved from the murdering hand of Agrippa, it doesn’t deter the will of God. Prayer is the believer’s most powerful weapon because God has ordained it as the way by which things will get done.
So, when God hears us praying then He acts in our favor, 1 John 5:13–15. This is because not only has He predetermined the outcomes of life, He has also predetermined by what means they will occur. Knowing that God is in control should bring peace in our lives. Its like when a child feels safe in the house during a storm because he knows Dad has taken care of everything… like he always does.
Wisdom involves detecting your unnatural inclination to be what you were not designed to be.
