Titus 3:14 (12-15) “Our people must also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful.”
How helpful are you becoming?
In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul explained that those who were guilty of theft had to learn to give. But to be able to give they had, not only to stop stealing, they had to get a job and earn the money they were going to give.
I wonder if Paul was calling the church in Crete lazy. Remember in chapter one verse 12 Paul rebukes a man for being insensitive to Cretans, calling them lazy, among other things? Well, you know what they say, where there’s smoke there’s fire! I don’t know if Paul was calling the church there lazy or if he was just advising them against fulfilling that man’s prophecy, but even today the church must be about the business of being ready to meet needs. Keeping the church operational and moving forward requires that each of us remember our mission here on earth (mature in the church and share the gospel) as we wait for our Lords return.
So whereas I might not be able to go out to a foreign or local mission I am able to prayerfully and financially support that work. Let’s stop stealing the time and money God has given us to help those in ministerial need.
Joyfulness involves learning to encourage others with all the resources God has given me.
