1 Corinthians 16:9 (1-9) “for a wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.”
How excited are you?
I think that it is safe to say that when Satan feels attacked, he will fight back. We get this sense from Paul’s words of encouragement and excitement. Paul was really excited that this door to effectively serve his Lord had opened to him, in Ephesus. Yet, he recognized it would not be easy.
In another sense we should also take with us the idea that resistance to the gospel doesn’t necessarily mean a closed door. I wonder if there are times when resistance in ministry might just be Satan fighting for ground he thought was his or that he might not be involved at all.
I mention Satan because both Ephesus and Corinth were pagan worship centers. By pagan I mean the belief system that recognizes many gods but One, Jehovah.
So, Paul was staying (giving of his time) in Ephesus to support and strengthen the believers there and his desire was to return to Corinth and do the same for them, 16:5-8. I wonder how much time we come to give when we see each other in church? Are we aware that just as we meet with resistance from Satan others do as well?
Availability involves being in the right place at the right time.
