Ephesians 5:17 (1-17) “So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Now there’s a question asked by so many. What is the will of the Lord?
We ask that question as if a long and hard journey must be taken where it is possible we will die before finding the answer. Yet, for believers that is a question that should always have a ready answer.
Paul gives that ready answer in 5:9, “for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth”. His will for us, as believers, is that our lives consist of standing in the truth (God’s word), living out that truth in our lives and in the lives of others; and, of course, to do that we must abandon our former way of living, 4:20–24. That life didn’t stand for truth and served only to deceive it self and others.
So we should spend out time wisely looking in God’s manual for living (5:16), the Bible, discovering how we can please God (5:10). Just like a child finds joy in pleasing his father, as we please our heavenly Father we will find peace and joy in all we do.
Diligence involves studying the scriptures to understand clearly the Holy Spirit and His counsel.
