Colossians 2:12 (8-17) “having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.”

Just as Jesus was buried and raised those of us who believe, have been buried and raised with Him. Every time a new believer is immersed in that water he identifies himself with Jesus death, burial and resurrection. This ritual also helps us to remember that we must daily put away our past way of living for a new way of living in Christ. It becomes, by the miracle of God’s mercy, an act rooted in our past. So by faith we accept this new way of life.

This new way of life doesn’t demand of me to keep days or eat only certain foods to help me get right with God or gain favor from Him, 2:16. That way of life could not help me to be, either right with God or my fellow man. That way only complicated my life. This isn’t to say that rituals have no value.

Most of us go to church every Sunday where we question the faith of those who don’t. Instead of a question or an attack there should be involvement. The purpose of gathering was always to encourage each other, Hebrews 10:25. Recognizing that rituals have that value, to encourage to right living before God, our question should then be, are our daily rituals encouraging you or anyone else to remain strong in the Faith?

Wisdom involves recognizing that my behavior may be the cause of my current situation.

Colosenses 2:12 (8-17) “habiendo sido sepultados con El en el bautismo, en el cual también habéis resucitado con El por la fe en la acción del poder de Dios, que le resucitó de entre los muertos.”

Así como Jesús fue enterrado y resucitado los que creemos, hemos sido enterrados y hemos sido resucitados con El. Cada vez un nuevo creyente es sumergido en esa agua se identifica con la muerte, el entierro y resurrección de Jesús. Este rito también nos ayuda a recordar que debemos diariamente dejar atrás nuestra manera pasada de vivir para una nueva manera de vivir en Cristo. Llega a ser, por el milagro de la misericordia de Dios, un acto plantado en nuestro pasado. Entonces por fe nosotros aceptamos este nuevo estilo de vida.

Este nuevo estilo de vida no demanda de mí mantener días ni comer alimentos ciertos sólo para ayudarme consigo estar bien con Dios o favor de ganancia de El, 2:16. Ese estilo de vida no me podría ayudar a ser, ni consigo estar bien con Dios ni mi prójimo. Así sólo complicó mi vida. Esto no quiere decir que rituales no tienen valor.

La mayor parte de nosotros vamos a la iglesia todos los domingos donde juzgamos la fe de los que no van. En vez de juzgar o ataque debe haber participación. El propósito de reunirnos siempre a sido para animarnos el uno al otro, Hebreos 10:25. Reconocer que rituales tienen ese valor, para animar a la vida correcta antes de Dios, nuestra pregunta entonces debe ser, ¿estan nuestros rituales diarios animando a mi o a otros mantenernos fuerte en la Fe?

Sabiduría involucra reconociendo que mi conducta puede ser la causa de mi situacion actual.

Colossians 2:2 (1-10) “resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself,”

There is or was another mystery, apart from the first one mentioned?

Yes, Paul had already clarified that the Bible of their day, because the New Testament had not yet been recognized as connected with the old (2 Peter 3:15-16), had spoken of a mystery. That mystery was that both Jew and gentile were to be saved. Paul explained in his letter to the church in Rome that there would be a time for the gentiles to be saved and responsible for getting out the Gospel (the way of salvation from the final judgment), which would be followed by a return of Jewish responsibility to share the Gospel since the church would no longer be present, Romans 11.

This second mystery was that mystery revealed to those disciples on the road to Emmaus, Luke 24:13-32. In that story Luke says that Jesus explained the mystery to them using the entire Old Testament, v. 27. And this mystery was that Jesus is 100 percent God and 100 percent man at the same time. We don’t know how that is possible, yet the 66 books of the Bible attest to the fact. It is what it is.

The fact that man is constantly looking for an explanation and direction of and for life implies that there actually is an answer. An answer given to us by our Creator through nature and His written testimony (Psalm 19) for which we become responsible to accept or reject.

Wisdom involves discerning false philosophies and natural inclinations and rejecting them.

Colosenses 2:2 (1-10) “resultando en un verdadero conocimiento del misterio de Dios, es decir, de Cristo,”

¿Hay o fue otro misterio, aparte del primer mencionado?

Sí, Pablo ya había clarificado que la Biblia de su día, porque el Nuevo Testamento todavía no había sido reconocido como conectado con el viejo (2 Pedro 3:15-16), había hablado de un misterio. Ese misterio fue que ambos judío y gentil iban ser salvados. Paul explicó en su carta a la iglesia en Roma que habría un tiempo para los gentiles para ser salvados y responsable de compartir el Evangelio (la manera de salvación del juicio final), que sería seguido por un regreso de responsabilidad judía para compartir el Evangelio siendo que la iglesia ya no estaría presente, Romanos 11.

Este segundo misterio fue ese misterio revelado a esos discípulos en el camino a Emaús, Lucas 24:13-32. En esa historia Lucas dice que Jesús explicó el misterio a ellos utilizando el entero Antiguo Testamento, 24:27. Y este misterio fue que Jesús es el 100 por ciento Dios y hombre al mismo tiempo. Nosotros no sabemos cómo eso es posible, mas los 66 libros de la Biblia atestiguan al hecho. Es lo que es.

El hecho que hombre constantemente busca una explicación y dirección de y para la vida implica que hay realmente una respuesta. Una respuesta dada a nosotros por nuestro Creador por la naturaleza y Su testimonio escrito (Salmo 19) por el cual llegamos a ser responsables de aceptar o rechazar.

Sabiduría involucra descubriendo filosofías sin esperanza y rechazarlas.

Colossians 1:28 (15-23) “so that we may present every man complete in Christ.”

Paul tells us why it is that he works as hard as he does, 1:24 and 29. It is the same reason why any minister of God to the church works… as hard as Paul did. (A minister is any one who is doing something to further the Gospel in the church under the direction of that church. This includes Sunday school teachers, choir members and the cleaning help.)

First it was because he was called or appointed to do this, 1:25. But as a minister what was his responsibility? First it was to reveal or present to every one who would listen the mystery of the Gospel; which is Christ in us, the hope of glory, 1:27. And, then to present them all before God complete in Christ, 1:28.

The mystery of the Gospel is not just that salvation (from certain judgment) was made available to the non-Jew (remember that before there even was a Jew salvation was available to anyone), but that it was made available at all to anyone.

So his second reason for working is not just to present everyone he comes into contact with to God as one saved; he wants to present them as complete, meaning as Christ like as possible. Remember Christ likeness will not only bring me peace, it will be the basis of my testimony in this life.

The question for each of us is; how seriously are you taking your calling?

Determination involves directing all our energies to complete the mission we’ve been assigned.

Colosenses 1:28 (15-23) “a fin de poder presentar a todo hombre perfecto en Cristo.”

Pablo nos dice por qué es que trabaja tan duro como hace, 1:24 y 29. Es la misma razón por qué cualquier ministro de Dios a la iglesia trabaja tan duro como Pablo hizo. (Un ministro es cualquiera que hace algo para promover el Evangelio en la iglesia bajo la dirección de esa iglesia. Esto incluye a maestros de escuela del domingo, miembros de coro y los que limpian.)

Primero fue porque fue llamado o fue designado a hacer esto, 1:25. Pero como un ministro ¿qué fue su responsabilidad? Primero fue de revelar o presentar a cada uno que escucharía el misterio del Evangelio; que es Cristo en nosotros, la esperanza de gloria, 1:27. Y, entonces presentarlos todo a Dios complete en Cristo, 1:28.

El misterio del Evangelio no es sólo que salvación (de cierto juicio) fue hecho disponible al no-judío (recuerde que antes que hubiera aún un Judío la salvación estuvo disponible a cualquiera), pero que fue hecho disponible incomprensiblemente a cualquier.

Entonces su segunda razón para trabajar no es de sólo presentar a todos con que tenia contacto a Dios como uno salvado; los quiere presentarlos como completos, significando los mas posible como Cristo. Recuerde que la semejanza de Cristo no sólo me traerá paz, mas será la base de mi testimonio en esta vida.

La pregunta para cada uno de nosotros es; ¿cuán gravemente toma usted su llamamiento?

Determinación implica el ordenar todas nuestras energías para terminar la misión que se nos ha asignado.

Colossians 1:23 (15-23) “if indeed you continue in the faith…”

The church at Colossae had apparently slipped into some weird practices that Paul was about to correct. They were overly concerned with dietary rites and circumcision, because of Jewish legalism (2:11, 16). There was angel worship (2:18) and more. These practices didn’t make them non-believers. Just as there was nothing you could do to be saved, there is nothing you can do to undo it.

But, from the perspective of every man here on earth right now the only way I can know that you are saved is if you act like it. If you are not acting like a person who has recognized the error of your past and is doing ever thing possible to correct that and at the same time is trying to thank God for your salvation in everything you say and do, then why should I believe your unsupported testimony?

If Christ likeness is the answer for personal peace, then why fall back into silly practices that neither glorify God nor make you more like His Son? In this sense although we are in the world we must remain separate from it. Not by cutting ourselves off but by engaging in life the ways God originally intended us to.

While Jesus was here He was an example to us of what God is like (1:19), but more than that He was an example of what we can be, in Him right where we are.

Decisiveness involves maintaining our commitments in spite of the distractions of life.

Colosenses 1:23 (15-23) “si en verdad permanecéis en la fe…”

La iglesia en Colosas había resbalado aparentemente en algunas prácticas raras que Pablo estuvo a punto de corregir. Estaban preocupados excesivamente con ritos dietéticos y circuncisión, a causa del legalismo Judío (2:11, 16). Había culto de ángel (2:18) y más. Estas prácticas no los hicieron no creyentes. Así como no había nada que usted podría hacer para ser salvado, no hay nada que usted puede hacer para deshacerlo.

Pero, de la perspectiva de cada hombre en este mundo en este momento la única manera yo puedo saber que eres salvo es si actúa como así es. Si usted no actúa como una persona que ha reconocido el error de su pasado y estas haciendo lo posible para corregir eso y tratas al mismo tiempo de dar gracias a Dios por su salvación personal en todo lo que dices y haces, ¿entonces por qué debo creer yo su testimonio no apoyado?

¿Si la semejanza de Cristo es la respuesta para la paz personal, entonces por qué retrocede en las prácticas tontas que ni glorifican a Dios ni le hace más similar a Su Hijo? En este sentido aunque estemos en el mundo nosotros debemos quedarnos separado de el. No cortando mi contacto con el mundo sino por entrar en la vida de la manera que Dios originalmente intento.

Mientras Jesús estuvo aquí fue un ejemplo a nosotros de como es Dios (1:19), pero más que esto fue un ejemplo de lo que podemos ser, en El aquí donde estamos.

Ser decisivo involucra manteniendo nuestros compromisos a pesar de las distracciones de la vida.

Colossians 1:5 (3–14) “because of the hope laid up in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel…”

We hear lots of people talk about hope, a hope for a better job, a better car, a better house, a better education, a better life and even a better tomorrow. But this kind of hope focused on getting. When Paul wrote this letter he was talking to a people who had a different kind of hope, it was a hope that created a desire to give, 1:5.

What was different about this kind of hope was that it had dealt with all our needs job, house, education and life by answering the most important hope question, what about tomorrow. If I knew what was to come tomorrow and was ready then I could handle what ever was happening today because my tomorrow was secure. It remains a hope because it hasn’t happened, but it is still sure, 1 Peter 1:4.

The people at Colossae had heard and understood that there is coming a day when all men will be judged before their Creator, God. On that day the only way you can avoid His anger will be if you have accepted the work His Son Jesus performed on our behalf on the cross. If I trust that His Father accepted His death and resurrection then my future is secure, 1:12–14.

This security frees me to give to the needs of others in hope that they will follow us and gain their own sure hope for their future.

Faith involves resting all my hopes for tomorrow on God’s proven promises rather than on man’s faltering word.

Colosenses 1:5 (3–14) “a causa de la esperanza reservada para vosotros en los cielos, de la cual oísteis antes en la palabra de verdad, el evangelio,”

Oímos que muchas personas hablan de esperanza, una esperanza para un mejor trabajo, para un mejor carro, para una mejor casa, para una mejor educación, para una mejor vida e incluso para una mejor mañana. Pero esta clase de esperanza se enfoca en recibir. Cuando Pablo escribió esta carta hablaba con un pueblo que tuvo una clase de esperanza diferente, fue una esperanza que creó un deseo para dar, 1:5.

Lo que fue diferente acerca de esta clase de esperanza fue que había tratado con todas nuestras necesidades, el trabajo, la casa, la educación y la vida por medio de contestar la pregunta más importante acerca la esperanza, qué tal mañana. Si supiera lo que lo que me venia en el mañana y estuviera listo entonces podría manejar lo que me sucediera hoy porque mi mañana estuviera seguro. Se queda una esperanza porque no ha sucedido, pero está seguro, 1 Pedro 1:4.

Las personas en Colossae habían oído y habían comprendido que vendrá un día cuando todos los hombres serán juzgados antes de su Creador, Dios. En ese día la única manera que se puede evitar Su ira será por aceptar el trabajo que Su Hijo Jesús realizó a nuestro beneficio en la cruz. Si me fío de que Su Padre aceptó Su muerte y resurrección entonces mi futuro es seguro, 1:12–14.

Esta seguridad me liberta para rendirme a las necesidades de otros con la esperanza que nos seguirán y ganarán su propia esperanza segura para su futuro.

Fe involucra descansando todas mis esperanzas para el mañana en las promesas seguras del Señor en vez de las palabras inciertas del hombre.
